Plumbing Manager

Under limited supervision, a Plumbing Manager oversees the staff and work performed including but not limited to the installation, repair, and maintenance of pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing systems used for water distribution and wastewater disposal at Union County Public School facilities.

Supervises the operations and activities of personnel assigned to his/her area and:

1. evaluates the performance and quality of work for those activities and personnel. Participates in budget preparation, prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations, submits justifications, and monitors expenditures. Oversees and assembles, installs, maintains, and pressure tests all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes. Prepares Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) projects by inspecting facilities, identifying needs and priorities, obtaining cost estimates, and scheduling the completion and quality of work. Participates in the employment cycle, including the selection of staff, providing and coordinating staff training, corrective actions and implementation of disciplinary procedures.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Accurately maintain records as required by state or federal laws, and Union County Board of Education policies, and/or school-based requests, and adhere to confidentiality requirements of state and federal law.

2. Coordinate plumbing activities with building stakeholders, i.e. principal, assistant principal, and external resources, where applicable.

3. Provides recommendations and assists in the implementation of departmental goals and objectives.

4. Utilizes Microsoft office software, i.e. Excel, to analyze and manipulate data Reviews expenditures for material, equipment, and services to validate compliance to departmental policies and procedures.

5. Manages maintenance assets to include the purchase, proper use, and care of equipment.

6. Conducts weekly financial review and approval of P-card purchases for assigned employees.

7. Performs work in the field assisting staff, as needed

15. Effectively produces professionally written correspondence across various communication mediums, i.e. cell phone, computer 16. Participates in departmental, district-level, and other meetings as directed by supervisor 17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Desirable Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent Ten (10) years of commercial plumbing experience
• Valid driver's license Five (5) years of Commercial plumbing experience
• NC Licensed Plumber

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of building maintenance
• Proficient in Microsoft Office software including but not limited to Excel
• Knowledge of North Carolina building and/or plumbing code and regulations applicable to maintenance operations
• Knowledge of a full range of means, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in maintenance operations.
• Knowledge of safe work practices including OSHA regulations to ensure personnel assigned to him/her are following established guidelines.

• Ability to work with diverse individuals and/or groups

Customer Relationships:

• Requires the ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
• Must be adaptable to performing in stressful and emergency situations

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary/Medium - Exert force 10-25 lbs., frequently; and up to 10 lbs., constantly; or a negligible amount of force to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.

Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Vision to read printed materials, a VDT screen, or other monitoring devices.

Environmental Conditions: Varies from indoors exposure to outside weather conditions Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud.

Hazards: Uneven walking/working surfaces, communicable diseases, cleaning chemicals, lifting/carrying of materials, and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment).
