Security Officer 1 Tennessee State University Police Department invites applications for Security Officer 1. Responsibilities Patrol the campus and observe and report incidents or activities that appear to be in violation of the law or university rules and regulations, including questionable or suspicious situations. Report accidents involving persons or property and provide probable cause of incidents, pursue appropriate action, and inform proper authorities as required. Direct and control traffic on campus, handle duties prescribed by fixed post orders, and enforce all lawful orders and directives from the supervisory chain of command. Testify in court or legal proceedings as required by the nature of the position, check for valid university identification and other university‑issued credentials, issue parking citations, and operate and maintain security equipment. Keep records and make reports, and perform other related work as assigned. A Security Officer may be required to drive a TSUPD security vehicle during the shift. Be assigned to a security booth, substation, campus building, and any other area on campus. Provide availability on all three shifts, weekend and holiday work, and mandatory periods for special events sponsored by the university on and off campus. Comply with all city, state and national ordinances. Obey all laws on and off duty. Treat all persons with utmost respect and professionalism, perform and carry ourselves in the highest ethical manner, maintain neat and clean uniforms, keep equipment in good working order, and be well‑groomed, complying with department policy. Minimum Qualifications At least 18 years of age. Citizen of the United States. High school graduate or equivalency. No conviction or plea of any felony charge, or violation related to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances. No dishonorable discharge from any Armed Forces branch. Fingerprints on file with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Passed a physical examination by a licensed physician. Good moral character and free of apparent mental disorders, as determined by a qualified mental health professional. Certified in meeting the Mental Disorders criteria of the DSM-III. Valid Tennessee operator license issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety.
