Training and Development Specialist

JOB SUMMARY The Training and Development Specialist develops, implements and evaluates employee development plans and programs to support organizational needs as a generalist or in a combination of Disciplines such as management development, talent management, succession planning, technical or nontechnical training, or e-learning. Monitors employee development and training programs, assesses needs and results, develops new programs and modifies existing programs. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES May select and assign instructors to conduct specific training and development. May provide performance evaluations for training instructors. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Sets the example for excellence in training practices and designs/administers systems to ensure trainers are sufficiently trained and perform to expectations. Assesses the organizations training and development needs through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and communication with managers, and instructors. Creates, organizes, plans, and presents various forms of onboarding, orientation, and skills training for employees. Develops unique training programs to fulfill workers specific needs to maintain or improve job skills. Work with Managers to ensure employees are given the tools and resources necessary to learn and perform line of progression jobs. Assists with reviewing, updating and creating current best practices to aid the training and development process. Performs audits of on-the-job training, monitors, and documents employee progress. Works with Manpower scheduler to schedule shopfloor employees for training. Creates and/or acquires training procedure manuals, guides, and course materials. Presents training and development programs using various forms and formats including group discussion, lecture, simulations, and videos. Maintains records of training and development activities, attendance, results of tests and assessments, and retraining requirements. Assesses training materials prepared by instructors. Evaluates and documents program effectiveness through assessments, surveys, and feedback. Maintains Learning Management System. Maintains knowledge of the latest trends in training and development. Acts as management representative for IAFT audits as it relates to training and development. Assists department managers with preparing and implementing training budgets for their departments.
