Phlebotomist

Position Details Position: Phlebotomist 4530 Location: Columbia, MD (also covers Baltimore City, Frederick County). Schedule: 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday‑Friday, with one Saturday shift per month. 8‑hour shifts (starting as early as 6 AM or ending as late as 7 PM depending on location). Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Properly explain in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all of the physician's orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct. Package specimens for transport. Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow different procedures outlined by protocol to maintain specimen integrity during transport. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting. Minimum 1 year of overall experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED. Pediatric and geriatric experience required. Clean driving record and reliable transportation; mileage expenses paid.
