Analytical/Assessment Skills Job Role Summary The Grants Writer III is responsible for assisting the Grants Department in all functions of grants-related fundraising. Specific duties include prospecting new funding sources, writing and editing, budget preparation, and ensuring timely and accurate development and submission of proposals. The ideal candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field; master’s degree preferred; and at least five years of experience in grant writing. Candidate must have excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills with ability to work professionally and efficiently in a time-sensitive environment. Must be able to read and interpret complex guidelines, data, and legal documents. Grant Research Development and Writing — 50% Read and comprehend funding opportunities to determine feasibility, eligibility, and appropriateness. Prospect new funding sources helping to identify opportunities for federal, state, and private support and distribute them to relevant staff. Write and edit grant proposals for HHC, MCPHD, Eskenazi Health (including Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center and Eskenazi Health Center), and IEMS. Develop budgets, including formulation of salaries, costs, and percentages. Cross-Functional Collaboration — 30% Serve on planning committees for all new and renewal grant proposals. Serve as a liaison between the Grants Department and Funder for coordination and communication. Provide guidance and support to program staff regarding proposal requirements, compliance matters, and submission protocols. Provide technical assistance to Program Managers. Proposal Management — 20% Develop proposal checklists and internal deadline schedules to track proposal progress. Ensure accurate and timely development and submission of grant proposals. Maintain complete and accurate files of grant proposal activity. Assist department personnel with periodic reporting, newsletter development, and tracking. Maintain, monitor, and distribute grant-related information to appropriate personnel. Facilitate executive approval for all grant proposals and awards to HHC. * This job description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in public health, journalism, business, or related field At least five years of writing experience Program development and project management experience Experience interpreting funding opportunity guidelines and preparing proposals for submission to major funding agencies Ability to develop budgets, including formulation of salaries, costs, and percentages. Ability to organize a proposal effectively and efficiently with attention to detail. Proficiency with federal proposal submission portals, including Grants.gov, HRSA Electronic Handbooks, etc. Excellent attention to detail, outstanding customer service, and strong communication skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents (proposal requests/legal documents) Ability to handle several tasks under time pressures and competing deadlines Proficiency with federal proposal submission portals, including Grants.gov, HRSA Electronic Handbooks, etc. Preferred Master’s degree Familiarity with public health methodologies Federal grants management experience, including but not limited to, interpreting and applying provisions of Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements, 2 CFR Part 200 et.al. Proficiency with federal proposal submission portals, including Grants.gov, HRSA Electronic Handbooks, etc. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Manage and maintain internal and external relationships. Excellent writing skills. Firm understanding of program development and grant writing. Excellent time management skills. Strong planning and organization skills, including attention to detail. Ability to manage all aspects of the job with little supervisory oversight. Must maintain confidentiality of information. Must be willing to work occasional evenings or weekends. Ability to manage and maintain internal and external relationships. Effectively present information to individuals and groups. Respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
