VFI Freight Inspector

Virtual Freight Inspections (VFI) is looking for qualified candidates in the Richmond market to conduct damaged freight inspections.

A VFI Freight Inspector is an independent contractor who conducts on-site inspections at freight terminals, service centers, and warehouses nationwide. Freight inspectors evaluate products and packaging for damage, take detailed notes and photos, and create inspection reports using VFI’s proprietary online templates. On-site inspections typically take less than 30 minutes, and inspectors are expected to complete an inspection report within three business days after receiving an order.

A successful freight inspector candidate must have their own transportation, be willing to travel up to 50 miles, be able to physically lift up to 40 pounds, and be available during normal business hours. They must also own a cellphone with a camera, computer, and printer, and have high-speed internet access.

VFI provides training to all newly hired freight inspectors, so previous experience is not required.

The compensation is a pre-determined flat rate per inspection, which varies by zip code and driving distance. As an independent contractor, inspectors are responsible for covering their own business-related expenses, including mileage, digital devices, and employment taxes. Inspectors are paid bi-monthly after we invoice our customers, and they will receive an annual Form 1099 in accordance with IRS rules.

Once an agreement is reached, prospective inspectors must sign an independent contractor agreement. VFI will provide appropriate training to the independent contractor on their systems and procedures for preparing an inspection report. Both VFI and the independent contractor will agree to perform inspections in mutually agreed zip codes. When an inspection has been ordered in their area, the VFI inspector will receive an email and text notification.
