Position Summary:

Stoneway Talent is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a well-established, multi-discipline engineering firm in Mississippi. Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to take meaningful ownership of complex building systems projects, from initial design through construction closeout. You will work alongside a collaborative multi-disciplinary team, applying your technical expertise to deliver HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for a diverse portfolio of clients across Mississippi and the Gulf Coast. The firm carries a significant and growing book of work in the healthcare sector, and candidates with prior experience designing mechanical systems for hospitals, outpatient clinics, or other medical facilities will find this role especially well-suited to their background.

What You’ll Do:

DESIGN LEADERSHIP & TECHNICAL EXECUTION

• Lead the design of building HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems on complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
• Perform comprehensive building HVAC load calculations and annual building energy modeling and simulation analyses.
• Select and specify mechanical systems equipment and components that best align with project requirements, performance goals, and budget.
• Apply advanced engineering tools including REVIT, AutoCAD, Trace 3D/700, BLCC, and the Microsoft Office suite to deliver precise, well-documented designs.
• Design and engineer HVAC systems for healthcare and medical facilities in accordance with ASHRAE 170, the FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals and Outpatient Facilities, NFPA 99, and CMS Conditions of Participation, including pressure relationship design, air change rate compliance, filtration requirements, and infection control considerations.

CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION & PROJECT DELIVERY

• Provide authoritative construction administration services throughout the project lifecycle, serving as the technical point of contact for assigned projects.
• Review contractor shop drawings, submittals, and related documentation, ensuring strict conformance with design intent and specifications.
• Represent the firm in project design, coordination, and construction meetings, communicating with clarity and confidence.
• Coordinate mechanical construction activities across engineering and construction disciplines to keep projects on track and on budget.

COLLABORATION & DESIGN EXCELLENCE

• Build and sustain strong professional relationships with project teams, clients, and contractors. You are a trusted partner, not just a technician.

What We’re Looking For:

• Proven experience designing mechanical building systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) in a consulting engineering environment.
• EIT designation or active pursuit of licensure is a plus.
• Proficiency with REVIT and AutoCAD for production-level design work.
• Hands-on experience with energy modeling tools (Trace 3D/700, eQUEST, or similar) and life-cycle cost analysis (BLCC).
• Strong construction administration experience. You know how to read the field and hold design intent.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable in client-facing and contractor-facing settings.
• A mindset oriented toward quality, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
• Prior experience designing mechanical systems for hospitals, outpatient clinics, surgery centers, or other healthcare facilities is highly valued.
• Working knowledge of healthcare facility codes and standards applicable to mechanical systems, including ASHRAE 170, FGI Guidelines, NFPA 99, NFPA 90A, ASHRAE 62.1, and CMS Conditions of Participation. Familiarity with Joint Commission standards and state Department of Health requirements is a plus.
