Comptroller

Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Middleware Administrator to support the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts application infrastructure. The role involves day‑to‑day operations, continuous improvement of full‑stack and microservices‑based solutions, enterprise software maintenance and upgrades, platform monitoring, incident response, security configuration, and ensuring system stability, performance, and availability. Work Hours 8 AM to 5 PM, 40‑hour week, Monday – Friday, with occasional evening, weekend and/or holiday hours, including 24‑hour on‑call rotations. Hours may change based on business needs. Job Responsibilities In this role you will: Architect modifications and enhancements and support technical and business needs of the agency. Analyze existing procedures for efficiency and effectiveness. Ensure middleware services adhere to agency standards, policies, and procedures. Serve as a technical lead on projects as necessary. Represent the team during meetings and projects. Stay informed on the latest developments in middleware technologies and applications. Develop and maintain accurate system and architectural documentation. Conduct training of staff prior to system implementation, and provide ongoing guidance. Oversee, train, and mentor other team members on accepted operating procedures. Support management with budgeting and compliance processes. Install, configure, test, upgrade, and maintain middleware services and software. Utilize the agency ticketing system to track issues and work requests. Monitor and respond to system and application performance alerts. Participate in the rotating 24‑hour on‑call schedule. Participate in disaster recovery testing and events. Automate routines using scripting and other programming languages. Complete all required and assigned training before the due date. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university. Seven (7) years of general technology experience in software development, middleware, or server administration. Seven (7) years of experience with middleware system administration, configuration, and troubleshooting. Five (5) years of experience with programming/scripting for automation in Ansible, Python, BASH scripts, Perl, or similar. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or related field. Experience with web application and web services development and/or deployments. Experience with MuleSoft, IBM WebSphere Liberty, RedHat OpenShift, ForgeRock, RedHat DataGrid, SAG BigMemory MAX, Apache Apache Tomcat, Form.io, or similar systems on Linux or Windows. Experience maintaining and troubleshooting RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or other Linux distributions. Experience monitoring server and application performance in Splunk, Dynatrace, or similar tools. Experience establishing and maintaining security configuration hardening of middleware systems to CIS or DISA STIG benchmarks.
