About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Med/Surg RN Specialty: Acute Med/Surg Duration: 22 to 26-week contract; flexible end date but must run through holiday season Shift: 3 x 12-hour shifts (day/night/weekend/holidays required) Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience required License: Valid RN Licensure Certifications: BLS, ACLS (AHA or RQI only), NIHSS Must-Have: 2 years of Med/Surg experience Description: The Registered Nurse applies nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The Registered Nurse assesses patient needs and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. He/She provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient’s episode. The RN develops specialized skills in the area of patients admitted for medical conditions. He/She provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions. The Registered Nurse is accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization. This includes lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing environment. The Registered Nurse applies nursing knowledge and skills in the delivery of care. He/She assesses patient and family needs through active listening and analyzing data obtained through direct observation and health team communication. The RN creates an individualized plan of care that is developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, he/she sets goals and monitors patient progress. The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or change in condition. He/She promotes and advocates for the health, safety, and rights of the patient. The Registered Nurse encourages mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome. He/She teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice. The RN understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies. He/She motivates patients and families by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home. The RN assesses patient and family learning styles to maximize understanding. He/She seeks teachable moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information. The RN asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self-care process. He/She provides tools and information to assist families after discharge and documents education provided. The Registered Nurse systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. He/She uses results from quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and care delivery. The RN engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas for professional development. He/She takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skills. The Registered Nurse uses logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and approaches to problems. Nursing practice reflects the importance of making meaningful connections with patients and families. He/She seeks to develop a helping, trusting, and caring relationship through communication and engagement. The RN anticipates the needs of patients and families. He/She acknowledges that the patient and family are the central focus of all care and services. The Registered Nurse embraces the importance of creating a healing environment as a key element of professional nursing practice. He/She demonstrates skill in the application of interventions, including medication administration. Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated.
