Senior CAD Designer — Mechanical & Electronic Assemblies

Shift: Standard business hours (40 hrs/week) Employment Type: Contract 6 Months Overview / Job Description A leading engineering-driven organization in the hardware and electronics space is seeking a Senior CAD Designer to support the design and development of complex mechanical systems and full product assemblies. This role will focus on creating detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks , supporting product development from concept through production. The designer will collaborate closely with engineering teams, PCB layout, program management, and machine shop personnel to drive design efficiency, manufacturability, and product reliability. This position also plays a key role in mentoring junior designers , improving design processes, and supporting documentation requirements for deliverables. Key Responsibilities Lead design efforts for semi-complex to complex mechanical assemblies for electronic equipment Develop detailed 3D models and assemblies using SolidWorks and create manufacturing-ready drawings Generate and structure mechanical Bills of Materials (BOMs) Collaborate with engineering teams, PCB layout, technical leads, and machine shop to resolve design issues Analyze sketches, specifications, and technical data to determine optimal design solutions Design for thermal performance, mechanical loads, tolerances, and clearances Create multi-view drawings including wiring specs, labeling, and overlay artwork Support prototype builds and evaluate fit, function, manufacturability, and usability Identify opportunities for cost reduction, quality improvements, and reliability enhancements Modify designs to resolve production and performance issues Monitor parts and assemblies through production to ensure compliance with design intent Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on team deliverables Mentor junior designers and support training initiatives Contribute to process improvements and departmental standards Support CDRL (Contract Data Requirements List) documentation Required Skills 6+ years of experience in CAD design or related field Strong experience with SolidWorks for 3D modeling and assemblies Experience using CircuitWorks Proficiency with DraftSight or similar 2D CAD tools Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Teams) Ability to independently review and execute design work Plusses Experience with mechanical assembly and manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, casting, etc.) Understanding of electronic hardware design considerations , including: Interconnects Thermal management Environmental requirements (climatic & dynamic) Experience working in cross-functional engineering environments Prior mentorship or leadership experience #J-18808-Ljbffr Insight Global
