Communications Coordinator

Brief Description The role of the Communications Coordinator is part of the Marketing Department. This position serves as the primary writer and communications producer for Simpson University. Duties include writing blog posts, press releases, website copy, and other institutional communications, as well as writing and producing the quarterly Life Together publication recapping the previous quarter. This role assists with writing speeches and remarks for university leadership, supports overall university messaging, and works with local media to secure interviews and coverage. Additionally, this role develops content for student enrollment communication flows and supports the department’s creative production needs, including graphic design, photography, short‑form video for social media, and media library management. This role works closely with the Senior Marketing Specialist and the Admissions team. Employment Flexibility The position may be full‑time or part‑time, with hours and scope determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, and preference. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required (Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field preferred). 1–2 years of experience in communications, marketing, or content writing; recent graduates with strong writing portfolios and internship experience will be considered. Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills across multiple formats (blog, press release, web copy, email, publication). Experience with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or CRM‑integrated tools. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or equivalent design tools. Photography skills with experience shooting events, portraits, and campus environments. Video production skills, including filming and editing short‑form social media content. Organized, detail‑oriented, precise, focused, and accurate. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work well independently and with others. Support overflow needs of other departments within the respective university area. Perform other duties as deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor. Essential Functions Write blog posts for the university website, including student and alumni stories, program highlights, and campus news. Write and distribute press releases on behalf of the university. Write and produce the quarterly Life Together publication for the Simpson University community. Assist with writing speeches, talking points, and remarks for university leadership, including the President. Assist with overall university messaging and institutional communications. Work with local media to secure interviews and media coverage for the university. Develop written content for marketing campaigns, website pages, and institutional communications. Coordinate email and SMS marketing campaigns and institutional announcements. Develop content and creative assets for student communication flows across the enrollment funnel, working with the Admissions team. Create graphic designs for marketing materials, social media, and advertising. Capture photography of campus life, events, and athletics for use across marketing channels and institutional communications. Produce short‑form video content for social media, including campus clips, event highlights, and student testimonials.
