**Job Description****Finance, Planning, and Budgeting (FPB) has an outstanding opportunity for a Mail Carrier Driver** **to join their team.****About this Opportunity**Under the supervision of Program Support Supervisor II, the **Mail Carrier Driver B** position works in a dynamic customer focused team that serves University of Washington departments with their mail production and delivery needs. Under the policies and procedures of Creative Communications, this position will have a variety of responsibilities, including sorting, delivering, collecting and rating U.S. Government mail, campus mail and freight; operating delivery trucks, vans and bicycles as required incidental to the distribution and collection of mail, supplies or services for the university. Operating manual and electric powered equipment to move materials. Operating mail processing equipment and manual mail processing in our bulk mail center.This position requires the ability to work with a variety of people and to work under pressure while maintaining a positive service attitude.**Key Responsibilities****Mail & Package Delivery Operation**40%Drive a variety of trucks and other motorized vehicles as well as bicycles.Deliver, receive and collect United States mail and private courier, delivery services including packages, campus mail including books, files, cartons, packages, overnight express, pallets and additional supplies etc.Make delivery to, and pick up from, U.S. Postal facilities, bulk, insured, overnight express, registered, certified, and regular mail. Pick up or drop off mail and materials from UW departments or vendors as needed.Use hand trucks, dollies, mail carts, bicycle, bicycle trailers and pallet jacks in the transport of materials.May make on-campus deliveries of newspapers, record retention boxes, supplies and pick up’s for commercial surface or air transport services.**Mail Processing & Distribution**40%Case and sort United States postal and campus mail; load/unload mail sacks.Sort, classify, and rate mail for proper postage.Operate mail processing equipment, such as mail metering machines, Videojet addressing, tabbing, folding, including manual handwork in our bulk mail center.Use receiving & tracking computer system to track and account for incoming accountable mail, packages, materials and goods.Will be assigned to our Shipping & Receiving operation as needed and provide all related duties/services to those operations.**Continuous Improvement & Other Duties** 10%Participate in our process improvement strategies, workflow improvements.Perform related duties as required.**Required Qualifications**To be considered for this opportunity your application must demonstrate you meet both the minimum qualifications and additional qualifications listed below. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration**Minimum Qualifications**High School graduation or GED Certificate; valid motor vehicle operator’s license.Six months office or clerical experience may be substituted for educational requirements.Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.**Preferred Qualifications**Ability and willingness to do constant lifting and work outside in all types of weather conditions Experience with wide variety of mail rating and/or processing equipment Ability to multi-task under changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Participated in a work environment using LEAN or a similar structured process improvement system**Working Conditions*** Read address labels, packing slips and box contents, and shipping and receiving equipment (i.e., hand-held scanning tools, computers, etc)* Utilization of pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment* Manual dexterity required for handling products, labeling, scanning and data entry* Lift/Carry* Frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs. without assistance* Occasionally lift and carry 50-75 lbs. without assistance* Frequently push/pull and carry up to 50 lbs. without assistance* Occasionally push/pull and team carry greater than 50-75 lbs.* Kneel/crouch, stoop (bend at waist), twist (knees/waist/neck), and push/pull with weight of package up to 8 hours per day* Regular handle packages and packaging materials* Stand and walk more than 5 hours per day* Work performed primarily in a warehouse environment which includes mechanical noise and varying temperatures* May be required to operate university vehicles and ride electric assist bicycles up to 3 miles**About the Team**Finance, Planning, and Budgeting (FPB) encompasses the major central financial, planning, analytical, and budgeting functions for the University of Washington, including:* Financial Stewardship & Operations* Institutional Analytics & Decision Support* Budget, Policy & Strategy* University Business ServiceCreative Communications (C2) is the University of Washington’s centralized provider of design, web, printing, copying, and mailing services, supporting the Seattle, Bothell, and Tacoma campuses as well as UW Medicine.
