Application Engineer

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

\n
• Manage the deployment, configuration, maintenance, and upgrading of enterprise applications supporting business functions such as legal operations, human resources, marketing, records management, and compliance.
\n
• Serve as a technical lead for application implementations and enhancement projects, coordinating testing, deployment activities, documentation, and knowledge sharing across the team.
\n
• Evaluate existing applications and recommend technical improvements to strengthen performance, reliability, and overall functionality.
\n
• Monitor application health, investigate technical issues, and implement solutions that minimize service interruptions.
\n
• Build and maintain integrations between enterprise platforms using APIs, middleware, database technologies, and workflow automation tools.
\n
• Develop monitoring processes, automated alerts, and scheduled jobs to identify potential issues and improve application availability.
\n
• Create scripts and automation solutions to streamline recurring administrative and support activities.
\n
• Write and troubleshoot SQL queries to investigate application issues, validate data, and support database-level changes.
\n
• Maintain technical documentation, including application configurations, integration workflows, architecture diagrams, operational procedures, and security requirements.
\n
• Establish and maintain application administration standards, operational procedures, and user guidance.
\n
• Research emerging technologies and industry practices to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
\n
• Partner with business stakeholders and application owners to understand requirements and ensure systems support operational objectives.
\n
• Coordinate with software vendors to investigate defects, resolve technical challenges, and support product enhancements.
\n
• Collaborate with database, data services, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to maintain application stability, security, and performance.
\n
• Work alongside service desk and training teams to facilitate knowledge transfer, improve troubleshooting processes, and support end users.
\n

Required Technical Qualifications

\n
• Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database troubleshooting, complex query development, and SQL Server Management Studio.
\n
• Working knowledge of RESTful and other web service APIs used for enterprise application integrations.
\n
• At least three years of experience supporting IIS, Windows Server environments, and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
\n
• Understanding of Windows Server administration, web application hosting, and enterprise application architecture.
\n
• Familiarity with integration platforms and workflow automation technologies, such as Boomi, BizTalk, enterprise integration tools, Microsoft Power Automate, and Azure SQL.
\n
• Experience with PowerShell or other scripting languages is beneficial.
\n
• Exposure to enterprise applications within a law firm or another complex professional services environment is preferred.
\n

Education and Professional Skills

\n
• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
\n
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities, with a practical approach to resolving complex technical issues.
\n
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
\n
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise.
\n
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across technical teams, business functions, and third-party vendors.
\n
• Experience coordinating technical implementations, application upgrades, and related project activities.
\n
• Ability to translate business needs into clear technical requirements and implementation plans.
\n

Work Environment and Availability

\n
• Work arrangements will follow company policies, with flexibility to support business and operational requirements.
\n
• Availability outside standard business hours may occasionally be required for deployments, upgrades, troubleshooting, or critical system issues.
\n
• Maintain timely communication and responsiveness when business needs require it.
\n
• Occasional travel may be necessary to support meetings, projects, or other business activities.
