Campus Security Safety Supervisor

Campus Security Safety Officer Opening available for internal permanent State employees of the Washington Military Department at Camp Murray, WA. Responsibilities Manage the security program and staff, providing 24/7 installation security and access control to Camp Murray military installation. Direct and coordinate all requirements for the security program, ensuring personnel are resourced, trained, and qualified to perform their duties. Responsible for budget and administrative duties in support of the security program. Perform security duties as needed; position requires carrying a service firearm. Write, review, update, and implement security policies and procedures for the security program. Required Qualifications Five years of experience in roles such as security guard, correctional officer, store investigator, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work. One year of lead and/or supervisory experience. A certification of successful completion of a basic law enforcement training program approved by the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission, or a certificate of completion in a police or reserve academy or military training program will substitute for one year of the required experience. Desired Qualifications One year of professional‑level experience managing a security program. Basic First Aid & CPR certification. Strong communication skills with the public, other employees, and through radio and telephone as necessary to ensure quick response to security‑related situations. Understanding and adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and standards for a safe work environment. Ability to handle highly stressful or adverse situations, make sound decisions calmly, and help calm others. Use of senses and reasoning to gather information and make independent determinations about ongoing security issues. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) for document development. Basic knowledge of computer‑supported and automated security program operations. Understanding of Washington State purchasing rules and ethics. Ability to take action to meet the needs of others and to learn and grow. Mental Demands Communicate with the public, other employees, and through radio and telephone as necessary. Understand and follow laws, regulations, and standards to maintain a safe work environment. Handle highly stressful situations, make good decisions calmly, and help calm others. Use senses and reasoning to gather information and make independent determinations. Read, understand, communicate, and abide by department policies, state and federal laws, and ordinances. Gather information, develop accurate written incident and investigative reports, and follow up on security incidents. Use word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word) to create, format, edit, preview, and print documents. Basic understanding of computer‑supported and automated security program operations. Physical Demands Routinely work a 40‑hour week providing ongoing customer and program support. Screen incoming traffic to assess required authorization to access the installation. Provide basic first aid and CPR as needed until arrival of emergency units. Have adequate hearing to decipher radio traffic, vehicle noise, and detect danger. Walk or stand for long periods while working at a post, directing traffic, and conducting patrols. Work outside in all types of inclement weather. Perform full range of body motion and use defensive tactics. Manual dexterity for writing, keyboarding, and use of a personal computer. Prepare for periods of significant physical effort and response to incidents. Character Security staff are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of agency personnel and visitors by controlling and monitoring ingress and egress through access control points on Camp Murray. Conditions of Employment Compensation : Wage/salary depends on qualifications or rules of promotion. Background Check, Polygraph, and Psychological Examination : Must successfully complete a pre‑employment personal history and background investigation, including a polygraph exam and psychological testing. Must sign a WMD Personal History Statement and Waiver and Authority for Release of Information form. Must be willing to participate in periodic background checks; failure to complete may result in termination. Must report all arrests within 24 hours or prior to scheduled shift. Must pass background check and obtain/maintain a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC). Drug & Alcohol Testing and Use : Must not use or possess illegal narcotics and be free from excessive alcohol consumption. Must pass pre‑employment, random, and reasonable suspicion testing; failure may result in termination. Medical Examination : Must pass a pre‑employment and periodic medical examination. Must be able to discriminate between vivid red and green colors. Legally Carry a Firearm/Weapons Qualification Training : Must be legally able to possess a firearm and ammunition and be willing to carry and use it safely. Must complete prescribed firearms qualification training during the probationary period. Must complete mandatory follow‑up training and annual weapons qualification requirements. Physical Abilities Test (PAT) : Must participate in and pass a pre‑employment physical ability test and annual re‑certification test.
SHIFT WORK :
Position may involve nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on‑call duties. May require work beyond core hours/days to respond to emergencies.TELEWORK :
This position is eligible for limited telework. Work schedule and balance between remote and in‑person work will be determined with supervisor based on operational need and employee preference.DRIVER'S LICENSE :
