Kennedy Jenks is seeking an Electrical Construction Inspector in California to support major water-related infrastructure projects. Travel may be required based on project needs.
This role provides onsite construction oversight for small to large-scale public works projects, with a focus on electrical components of water and wastewater infrastructure, including treatment plants, pump stations, industrial facilities, and electrical instrumentation and controls (I&C).
You'll help protect project quality, safety, schedule, and documentation by observing contractor work, tracking progress, and supporting communication between owners, contractors, clients, and project teams.
What You'll DoAs an Electrical Construction Inspector , you'll provide daily onsite inspection, documentation, coordination, and quality control support for electrical work on water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Inspect: Provide daily onsite oversight of electrical contractor activities under the supervision of the Construction Manager or Resident Engineer.
- Review: Observe mechanical installations, repairs, and replacements, along with electrical installations, for alignment with contract requirements, safety standards, applicable permits, and project specifications across water and wastewater treatment plants.
- Document: Prepare daily written reports detailing work progress, electrical labor, equipment use, field conditions, and inspection observations.
- Track: Monitor contractor schedule compliance with electrical milestones and communicate potential issues to the project team.
- Coordinate: Support meetings and written communication among owners, contractors, clients, and staff regarding electrical work progress and field concerns.
- Support commissioning: Conduct quality control inspections of electrical systems, wiring, controls, and related installations during construction and commissioning activities.
- Field impact: Your observations and documentation help keep essential water and wastewater infrastructure projects moving safely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Infrastructure scale: You'll support public works projects that may include treatment plants, pump stations, industrial facilities, and complex electrical controls and instrumentation systems.
- Trusted project connection: You'll serve as a key field presence who helps translate construction activity into clear information for owners, contractors, clients, and project teams.
- Field judgment: You recognize field issues early and communicate observations clearly to support timely project decisions.
- Clear documentation: You prepare accurate daily reports and written communications that create a reliable record of construction activity.
- Practical coordination: You work effectively with construction managers, resident engineers, contractors, clients, and internal project teams.
- Safety and quality mindset: You approach field oversight with attention to safety, workmanship, specifications, and project requirements.
- Experience: 10+ years of construction inspection experience involving mechanical and electrical components within water and wastewater treatment plants or comparable municipal infrastructure.
- Infrastructure background: Experience with water and wastewater pipelines, pump stations, treatment plants, industrial facilities, and electrical systems related to municipal infrastructure is preferred.
- Systems knowledge: Familiarity with inspection of equipment and systems such as pumps, boilers, digester and propane gas systems, heat recovery systems, building cranes, sliding gates, HVAC, variable frequency drives, fans, process and cooling piping systems, switchgears, transformers, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) batteries, washer/classifier systems, grit system components and piping, fire alarm systems, and heaters.
- Certifications: Certifications related to electrical safety, controls, or systems inspections are a plus.
This role is primarily field-based, with travel to project sites required based on project needs. Office or remote work may be available when project responsibilities allow.
Hourly Pay Rate for this position is anticipated to be $47 per hour, and may vary based upon education, experience, qualifications, licensure, seniority, certifications, and geographic location. Many of KJ's California public works projects are prevailing wage projects; therefore, KJ matches the prevailing wage requirements; many times, prevailing wage is higher than base pay rate.
