Assistant Meat Manager

As an Assistant Meat Manager , you’ll help lead the daily operation of the Meat Department and take responsibility for the department in the Meat Manager’s absence. You’ll work hands-on with the team, ensure meat is cut according to established specifications, maintain product quality and freshness, and help create an outstanding shopping experience for our customers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Support & Lead the Meat Department Assist the Meat Manager with the day-to-day operation of the department. Assume responsibility for department operations in the Meat Manager’s absence. Help provide direction, coaching, and support to Meat Department teammates. Assist with maintaining appropriate department staffing and workflow based on business needs. Help train and develop teammates on proper cutting techniques, product handling, sanitation, safety, merchandising, and customer service. Lead by example by providing fast, friendly, helpful, and efficient service to customers and teammates. Help maintain a positive, professional, and team-focused work environment. Follow company policies, procedures, safety standards, and the corporate code of conduct. Deliver Quality & Freshness Cut, trim, prepare, and package meat according to established specifications and guidelines. Maintain high standards for product quality, freshness, appearance, and presentation. Inspect products regularly to ensure only fresh, high-quality items are available for sale. Follow proper product rotation and inventory practices to maintain freshness and help reduce shrink. Ensure meat cases are properly stocked, organized, clean, and visually appealing. Maintain appropriate stock levels, with particular attention to advertised and promotional items. Properly handle, store, and rotate meat products according to company procedures and food safety requirements. Support Department Performance Assist the Meat Manager in achieving departmental sales, profitability, inventory, labor, and shrink objectives. Help monitor inventory levels and identify opportunities to maintain appropriate product availability. Support ordering, receiving, stocking, and merchandising activities as assigned. Follow established merchandising programs, product displays, pricing, signing, and promotional plans. Help identify opportunities to improve department efficiency, product presentation, customer satisfaction, and sales. Complete assigned department records, paperwork, and other administrative responsibilities accurately and on time. Maintain Food Safety & Sanitation Follow all company, Federal, State, and local food safety and sanitation requirements. Maintain clean and sanitary work areas, equipment, cutting surfaces, cases, coolers, and storage areas. Follow proper procedures for cleaning and sanitizing meat-cutting equipment and utensils. Follow safe food-handling practices and proper temperature-control procedures. Properly use required personal protective equipment and follow established workplace safety procedures. Immediately address or report food safety, sanitation, equipment, or workplace safety concerns. Create a Great Customer Experience Provide customers with fast, friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous service. Assist customers with product selection, preparation questions, special requests, and meat-cutting needs. Demonstrate knowledge of Meat Department products, cuts, preparation methods, and available services. Respond professionally to customer questions and concerns. Help ensure the Meat Department is clean, well-stocked, organized, and ready for customers throughout the day. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be at least 18 years of age. Ability to manage others and demonstrate follow-through to achieve desired results and objectives. Ability to pass a meat-cutting test. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Satisfactory performance reviews. Basic computer skills. High School Degree or equivalent. 6–12 months of related experience.
