Position Title: RecTennis Instructors and Site Directors
Reports to: Regional Manager of Recreational Tennis
Location: Local parks, schools, and/or recreational centers in your area
Status: Part Time; Hourly; Non-Exempt; Seasonal; On-Call
Pay: Ranges from $16.00-$21.00 per hour depending on city and job role

USTA PNW is looking for Instructors and Site Directors at our local parks and schools to help drive our mission on and off the court. This position reports to the Regional Manager of Recreational Tennis.
Established in 1904, the United States Tennis Association Pacific Northwest (USTA PNW) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization working to promote and develop the growth of tennis by providing access for all. As one of the 17 sections of the USTA, the national governing body of the sport of tennis, USTA PNW serves over 25,000 individual adult and junior members, 200+ tennis facilities, and provides low-cost RecTennis after school and summer programs to 40,000 participants. Key Responsibilities:
- Create a welcoming, safe, and fun learning environment for all participants.
- Communicate professionally with parents, partners, and community organizers.
- Implement program curriculum and provide on-going instruction and expertise at program sites.
- Ensure equipment set-up and take down for each session. Ensure that all equipment is in safe condition to use. Storing or the transport of equipment may be necessary depending on location working. Site Director may be asked to transport equipment in their personal vehicles if there is no secure on-site location for storage at the site.
- Check attendance roll for each session and check-out with parent sign-off for conclusion of each session.
- Stay at site until all participants have been picked up by authorized personnel.
- Perform marketing tasks as needed which include, but are not limited to; hanging flyers, working at marketing events, etc.
- Programs occur at outdoor and indoor sites/facilities and may include extreme weather conditions (heavy rainfall, high temperatures and sun exposure, etc.).
- Performing other duties as assigned by Site Director or Regional Manager of Recreational Tennis.
- Represent and support USTA PNW facilities and NetGeneration products and services to further PNW mission and initiatives.
- Follow and implement all USTA PNW procedures and protocols at all times.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with reasonable accommodations given. This position requires the ability to:
- Operate general tennis equipment, such as a racquet, balls, ball-hoppers, gym bags of supplies, clipboard, pop-up tennis net, pen.
- Occasionally move products and supplies, up to 30 pounds.
- Talk, speak or hear.
- Use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
- Carry out repetitive motions regularly such as tossing and motions holding a tennis racquet.
- Respond to sounds and visual cues.
- The USTA PNW will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and all amendments thereto, as well as any similar state laws and regulations. The USTA PNW will not discriminate on the basis of disability.
On and Off-court Needs:
- 99% On-Court
- 1% Off-Court (preparing daily lesson plans and activities)
- Subject to change with business needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Site Directors support and partner with Instructors, however this position does not manage the Instructors directly. The Site Director will lead the day-to-day flow and direct Instructors.
- Instructors have no supervisory responsibilities in regards to other staff.
Internal Relationships:
- Instructors work primarily and directly with Site Director and Regional Manager of Recreational Tennis.
- Site Directors oversee and direct Instructors and work directly with the Regional Manager to problem-solve and communicate issues and feedback as needed.
External Relationships: Maintains high quality customer service with parents, participants, and public.
Travel Demands: Staff are responsible for the travel to and from the job site every work day. Staff must have what is deemed as reliable transportation which can mean bus, bike, personal vehicle, etc.
Key Performance Indicators: When reviewing this position during the year, the following will serve as performance indicators:
- Pre and Post Season/Program Reviews performed by Supervisor (if applicable)
- Achievement of specific objectives for areas of responsibility.

Requirements
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience teaching tennis is preferred.
- Instructors can be an employee of any age over 14 generally. To act as a Site Director the employee must be 18+ years of age.
- Experience working with children and adults in a teaching setting is preferred.
- Dependability, communication skills, and an excellent work ethic.
- Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
- Desire to work with children and act as a positive role model.
- Ability to lead and direct participants activities and transitions.
- Desire, passion, and ability to promote and grow the game of tennis.
- Ability and comfort of collaborating and taking direction.
- Must have the ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to make quick decisions that best serve participants.
- Work independently and collaboratively to accomplish responsibilities, goals and projects.
- Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers, partners, vendors.
Conditions of Hire:
- Must have the ability to continually pass a background check.
- Must complete the USTA Safe Sport online education course. Eligibility to be SafePlay approved and remain SafePlay approved through tenure at USTA PNW.
- Must register within ADP Workforce Now (payroll platform) to ensure proper tax and payroll recording.
- Authorization to work within the United States administered by a 3rd party vendor.
- Must sign the USTA PNW Offer Letter, Employee Handbook, and all required policies and procedures upon hire and as needed.
