Hoag Health, the top-ranked health system in Orange County, California, is seeking a collaborative, innovative, and mission-driven Transplant Infectious Disease Physician to join our growing abdominal transplant program based in Newport Beach, California. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced transplant infectious disease specialist to help build a comprehensive kidney and liver transplant program from the ground up while shaping the clinical, quality, and regulatory infrastructure necessary to support long-term program success.
Working in close partnership with transplant surgery, transplant nephrology, hepatology, hospital leadership, nursing, pharmacy, infection prevention, microbiology, quality, and other multidisciplinary teams, the Transplant Infectious Disease Physician will provide clinical expertise across the continuum of transplant care while serving as the program's infectious disease subject matter expert. The physician will play a key role in developing evidence-based protocols, supporting regulatory compliance, advancing quality initiatives, and ensuring exceptional outcomes for transplant candidates, living donors, and transplant recipients.
In this position, you will balance clinical responsibilities with leadership in transplant infectious diseases, supporting the growth, quality, innovation, and long-term success of Hoag's abdominal transplant program while helping establish one of Southern California's premier transplant centers. You will partner with transplant leadership to develop and implement clinical pathways, standardized protocols, and best practices for infection prevention and management, serving as the transplant program’s infectious disease subject matter expert.
Details:
- Location: Primary practice location will be Newport Beach, CA with potential clinical responsibilities at Hoag Irvine as the transplant program expands.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday with shared call responsibilities as determined by the Transplant Infectious Disease service.
- Duties: The Transplant Infectious Disease Physician will provide comprehensive infectious disease care for kidney and liver transplant candidates, living donors, and transplant recipients across the continuum of care. Responsibilities include pre-transplant infectious disease evaluations, inpatient and outpatient consultation, management of complex opportunistic and donor-derived infections, development of antimicrobial treatment and prophylaxis strategies, immunization planning, and participation in organ acceptance discussions when infectious disease expertise is required. The physician will collaborate closely with transplant surgery, transplant nephrology, hepatology, pharmacy, infection prevention, microbiology, quality, nursing, and hospital leadership to develop evidence-based clinical protocols, support regulatory compliance, participate in multidisciplinary transplant selection conferences, and advance quality improvement initiatives that promote exceptional patient outcomes
- Call: Shared infectious disease call responsibilities, including availability for urgent transplant-related infectious disease consultation.
- Team: Collaborate closely with transplant surgeons, transplant nephrologists, hepatologists, advanced practice providers, transplant coordinators, pharmacists, infection prevention specialists, microbiology, nursing, quality, and hospital leadership to deliver coordinated, patient-centered transplant care.

Requirements:
- M.D. or D.O. degree from a fully accredited medical or osteopathic school of medicine
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Infectious Disease
- Active, unobstructed California medical license, or the ability to obtain one
- Full prescriptive authority and an active DEA in California, or the ability to obtain one
- Ability to successfully complete Hoag Health’s credentialing process
- Prior experience in transplant infectious disease is preferred
