Senior PHP Developer

We are seeking an experienced Senior PHP Engineer to join a growing engineering team supporting a business-critical healthcare technology platform.

This is a hands-on development role focused on building new features, enhancing existing applications, developing APIs and integrations, and ensuring production systems remain stable, secure, and performant.

The ideal candidate is a strong PHP developer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and is equally comfortable developing new functionality, reviewing code, troubleshooting production issues, and improving an established application environment.

You'll work with modern development practices and cloud-hosted applications running in AWS and Azure , collaborating with engineering, product, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver reliable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance PHP applications using Laravel and/or Symfony .
• Build and support RESTful APIs, backend services, integrations, and application workflows.
• Write clean, secure, maintainable, and high-performing PHP code following established engineering standards.
• Participate in technical design discussions, peer code reviews, and application architecture improvements.
• Troubleshoot production issues, investigate application errors, perform root-cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
• Support applications hosted in AWS and Azure, including deployment activities, monitoring, production validation, and incident response.
• Optimize MySQL queries, database interactions, and application performance.
• Work across the full application stack, including PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, relational databases, caching, and background processing.
• Improve application reliability, observability, documentation, automated testing, and operational runbooks.
• Collaborate with product owners, QA, DevOps, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Participate in Agile development, release planning, estimation, and delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
• Contribute to ongoing application modernization, framework upgrades, dependency management, and platform improvements.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional PHP development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Laravel and/or Symfony .
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles, and maintainable application architecture.
• Experience developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting production PHP web applications and backend services.
• Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs , including authentication, authorization, validation, and integrations.
• Proficiency with MySQL , including SQL queries, database troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Experience supporting business-critical applications hosted in AWS , including deployment support, monitoring, troubleshooting, and production incident resolution.
• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript , and modern web application development.
• Experience with Git, code reviews, collaborative development workflows, and Agile methodologies.
• Understanding of secure coding practices, application security, access controls, and data privacy.
• Familiarity with DevOps/SRE concepts, application monitoring, reliability, and production readiness.
• Ability to independently manage complex development assignments, estimate work, communicate technical trade-offs, and deliver quality solutions.
• Strong communication, collaboration, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with applications hosted in Microsoft Azure .
• Healthcare technology experience, particularly within HIPAA-sensitive environments.
• Experience with HL7, FHIR , or healthcare-related API integrations.
• Experience supporting ordering, fulfillment, or transaction-processing workflows.
• Exposure to Docker, CI/CD pipelines, application monitoring, and cloud-based infrastructure.
• Experience modernizing legacy PHP applications, upgrading frameworks, or improving application architecture.
• Experience mentoring developers or serving as a senior technical resource.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools to improve coding, debugging, testing, code review, and documentation while maintaining strong engineering standards.
