Electrical / I&C Design Engineer - Nuclear Power

Position Summary


The Electrical / Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Design Engineer is responsible for engineering design and technical support for plant modifications, retrofits, and equipment upgrades at a nuclear power facility.


This position develops engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and project schedules while supporting field implementation and ensuring designs meet applicable engineering, regulatory, and nuclear industry requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop electrical and/or Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) designs for plant modifications and upgrades.
  
  
• Prepare and update engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and design documentation .
  
  
• Develop project cost estimates and schedules for plant modifications.
  
  
• Perform field walkdowns to verify existing conditions and ensure design constructability.
  
  
• Provide technical oversight of engineering designs developed by outside Architect/Engineering firms .
  
  
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Implementation Engineers, and plant personnel to ensure design requirements are met.
  
  
• Support installation and implementation of plant modifications.
  
  
• Provide engineering support during refueling outages , including troubleshooting and issue resolution.
  
  
• Support and oversee post-modification testing .
  
  
• Manage special engineering projects as assigned.
  
  
• Participate in on-call Duty Engineer and Emergency Plan response assignments.
  
  
• Must be capable of reporting to the plant within 90 minutes when required for Emergency Plan responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution OR Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  
  
• 3+ years of relevant engineering experience preferred.
  
  
• Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation & Controls engineering background .
  
  
• Working knowledge of applicable engineering codes and standards required .
  
  
• Nuclear power plant experience preferred.
  
  
• Knowledge of nuclear industry regulatory requirements preferred.
  
  
• Knowledge of BWR systems, structures, and components preferred .
  
  
• Electrical power system analysis and protection experience preferred.
  
  
• Experience with ETAP and/or CAPTOR preferred .
  
  
• Strong engineering calculation, technical documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  
  
• Ability to manage multiple engineering projects and priorities simultaneously.
  
  
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  
  
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint .
