IV Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician

Sentara is hiring an IV Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician at Norfolk General Hospital. Location: Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk VA. Status: Full Time (40 hrs/wk). Shift: Rotating - 10 Hr Shift (4 days per week). Hours: 6am-11pm. Weekend: Every Other Weekend. Holiday Rotation.

The Specialty Pharmacy Tech performs the technician responsibilities in specialized areas of pharmacy practice under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner.

• Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area
• Demonstrates the ability to competently work independently in defined specialized areas of pharmacy practice
• Training in an advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions
• Assumes local and/or system responsibility for assigned tasks related to advanced specialist job positions
• Participates in the training of new employees
• Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner as required by specialty position
• Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
• Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
• Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information
• Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
• Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
• A pharmacy technician license is required in the state of practice.

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)

Certification/Licensure: Virginia Pharmacy Tech License (Required), CPhT License (Received through the NHA or PTCB (Required)

Experience: 5 Years Pharmacy Experience (Required), 2 Year IV or Sterile Compounding Experience (Required)
