Job Title: ER RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Day and Evening Shifts Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 Years License: Must have a valid state license in hand Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: 2 years of emergency department experience Description: The emergency room operates as a Trauma Level IV facility. There are a total of 14 beds and 2 trauma bays. A Fast Track system is in place with 3 designated rooms. A separate triage area with 2 triage rooms is available. Traveling nurses can triage after reviewing facility policies and procedures. Patients are typically held within the department, with overflow managed in adjacent rooms. Seclusion rooms for psychiatric needs can be established as necessary. Security is not in-house 24/7; local law enforcement is utilized as needed. On average, 40-60 patients are treated in the emergency room daily. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3-4 during daytime shifts, with 1:2 ratios from 3 AM to 7 AM. Common patient types include traumas, strokes, and motor vehicle accidents. The emergency department employs both physicians and mid-level providers 24/7. Charge nurses may take on assignments during peak hours. Support staff such as CNAs and medics assist throughout shifts. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 for necessary procedures. There are no dedicated monitor techs; RNs are responsible for monitoring. X-ray services are available on-site 24/7, with CT imaging nearby. Phlebotomy staff handle lab draws around the clock. Shifts include variable start times, with attempts made to limit consecutive off days. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. Holiday coverage is expected during peak seasons. Voluntary call options may be available. Floating to inpatient units for assistance may occur as needed. Scrub color is flexible, as long as it remains professional and clean. Orientation includes computer-based training and two days of floor training focusing on department-specific policies.
