Phlebotomist

Optum NY/NJ is seeking a Phlebotomist to join our team in Katonah, NY. Optum is a clinician‑led care organization that is changing the way clinicians work and live. As a member of the Optum Care Delivery team, you will play an integral role in our vision to improve healthcare for everyone. Schedule This is a 40‑hour work week Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, with rotating Saturdays from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. The schedule will be determined by the hiring manager upon hire. Location 111 Bedford Road, Second Floor, Katonah, NY 10536 (may travel for coverage purposes) 90 South Bedford Road, First Floor, Mount Kisco, NY 10549 (Saturday Coverage) 355 Kear Street, Second Floor, Yorktown Heights NY 10598 537 North State Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510 Primary Responsibilities Perform routine phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture and capillary puncture on adults, neonates, and pediatric patients. Distinguish sample types and draw requirements, adhering to the order of draw for lab testing. Navigate laboratory computer systems with minimal to no errors. Obtain finger stick and heel stick collections and verify patient demographics with two identifiers. Adhere to safety and infection control practices, including handwashing, aseptic techniques, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment. Collect blood using vacutainer, syringe, and butterfly techniques; prepare specimens for testing and label them appropriately. Assist patients with urine and stool collection procedures. Maintain a workflow that allows for at least 4–6 patients per hour. Perform EKG procedures and Holter monitoring. Attend required meetings and function as an effective team member with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff. Perform troubleshooting for LIS problems and collaborate with the LIS team to resolve issues. Travel to all draw stations and perform all related duties as required. Maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions. Additional responsibilities as assigned. Follow handwashing protocols. Practice aseptic techniques. Utilize protective barriers and personal protective equipment such as gloves and lab coats. Maintain proper disposal of hazardous materials. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. At least 1 year of computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and solid computer skills. At least 6 months of experience drawing blood in a hospital, doctor's office, or clinic. Ability to work rotating Saturdays. Ability to travel to other draw stations (Mount Kisco, Briarcliff Manor, Yorktown Heights). Reliable transportation and a valid U.S. driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications Phlebotomy certification. At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience (additional education may substitute for the minimum experience). Previous laboratory experience. EKG experience. Pediatrics phlebotomy experience. Soft Skills Ability to work independently and maintain good judgment and accountability. Adaptability to working on small or large teams. Pay is based on several factors including local labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications. The hourly pay range for this role is $16.15 to $28.80 per hour for full‑time employment. We comply with all applicable minimum wage laws.
