Overview The North Alabama Emergency Medicine Fellowship provides a unique opportunity for primary care physicians to become board certified in emergency medicine. The program is recognized by the American Academy of Emergency Physicians. Highlights Clinical duties include 12-14 shifts per month in the ED. Fellows participate in didactic lecture series each Thursday, with high-impact topics to prepare for EM Board certification and future careers as EM physicians capable of working at any emergency room in the country. Longitudinal Board Prep throughout the year to succeed on exam day. Special topics courses scattered throughout the fellowship, such as ENT skills, ortho and splinting, dental emergency, and multiple ultrasound courses. Fellows experience fellowship seminars such as Ballistics Injuries Seminar at a firearms center, a NASCAR Experience at the Talladega Speedway to learn about MVAs and traumas, a Snake Bite Symposium at the Birmingham Zoo, and multiple EMS and critical care ride-alongs. The curriculum includes instruction on essential emergency medicine procedures, airway management, and ED bedside ultrasound. Outcome Fellowship graduates will qualify for written and oral exams to receive board certification in emergency medicine (BCEM) by the American Board of Physician Specialists. #J-18808-Ljbffr
