Laboratory Technician - Fermentation / Down Stream Processing 2nd Shift 2:00pm - 10:30pm

Learn and understand basic microbiological techniques associated with fermentation/downstream processing duties such as filtration, concentration, and chromatography. Comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and all regulatory documentation. Demonstrate good verbal, written, and non-verbal communication. Use mechanical skills to maintain equipment and identify mechanical problems. Maintain a safe work environment and demonstrate reliability in attendance. Hours: 2nd shift, Monday–Friday 2:00pm–10:30pm. Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required. Position Responsibilities Demonstrate safe work habits and maintain a safe work environment; understand and comply with safety SOPs and procedures (MSDS guidelines, Near Miss, PPE, biohazard training, monthly safety training). Demonstrate reliability in attendance and punctuality. Learn and understand basic microbiological techniques to prepare and maintain cultures (inoculating, inactivating, harvesting, dispensing product as applicable for bacterial antigen production). Learn and comply with SOPs and associated documentation. Train in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and demonstrate understanding and compliance. Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills within and outside the department. Perform mathematical calculations and metric conversions. Learn and assist with completion of documentation (process worksheets and log sheets, timecards). Operate, clean, and perform minor maintenance on equipment (fermentors, seed isolators, centrifuges, filtration units). Assist with reading and reporting test results using scientific instruments. Use mechanical skills to identify mechanical problems and maintain equipment. Clean areas according to applicable SOPs. Obtain license and operate mobile powered material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, tank tugs). Perform supplemental duties as assigned. Education and Experience (Required) High School Diploma or equivalent required. Basic mechanical skills. Knowledge of personal computers using window-based applications. Technical Skills and Competencies Required Learn basic microbiological techniques (inoculating, inactivating, harvesting, dispensing) as applicable. Learn to operate, clean, and perform minor maintenance on relevant equipment. Use mechanical skills to identify mechanical problems and maintain equipment. Assist with reading/reporting test results using scientific instruments. Reliability in attendance and punctuality. Learn and comply with SOPs and required documentation. Physical Position Requirements Exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, noise, live steam, temperature fluctuations, and biohazards.
