Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Summary Responsible for administration of nuclear imaging procedures, calculation, diagnostic, therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, and adjunctive medications using a variety of equipment and strictly adhering to relevant safety standards. Responsibilities Carry out hot lab duties and perform a variety of nuclear medicine studies on inpatients and outpatients of all age groups. Understand and apply NRC rules and regulations, practice radiation safety, and safely operate all cameras and equipment. Process and send data to required destinations via computer. Prepare, measure, and administer radiopharmaceuticals and therapeutic dosages under physician direction. Employ radiation-detecting equipment to perform patient imaging procedures; describe procedures to patients and answer questions. Implement radiation safety standards, quality assurance, and monitor patient condition during imaging procedures. Collect patient information, analyze data, and provide quality images for physician diagnosis. When required, perform PETCT scans and demonstrate thorough understanding of related processes. Demonstrate qualities of a team player, professionalism, confidentiality, adaptability to change and technology advancements. Qualifications Completion of an approved School of Nuclear Medicine Technology. Certification with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). In North Dakota, license with the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (MIRT) board. Registered in positron emission tomography (PET) is helpful. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 60 days of employment, with recertification as required. Obtains and maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
