- Lead Respiratory TherapistParadigm at Katy - Katy, TX 77494## OverviewPosition TypeFull TimeJob ShiftDay## DescriptionJob Duties Restores patient’s pulmonary function, alleviates pain, and supports life by planning and administering medically prescribed respiratory therapy Meets patient’s goals and needs and provides quality care by conducting pulmonary function tests, assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results, and determining respiratory therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians and by prescription Helps patient accomplish treatment plan and supports life by administering inhalants, operating mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators Administers respiratory therapy treatments by performing bronchopulmonary drainage, assisting with breathing exercises, and monitoring physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes Evaluates effects of respiratory therapy treatment plan by observing, noting, and evaluating patient’s progress and recommending adjustments and modifications. May be requires to complete discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers; contributing to patient care conferences Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs Recommends and/or provides assistive equipment and outpatient or home health follow-up programs Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records. Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols Develops clinical nursing staff by providing information and developing and conducting in service training programs Complies with federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions Page 1 of 3 Supervisory Responsibility Job Description: Respiratory Therapist There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position. However, the position requires communication with and oversight of Therapy Assistants and other nursing home staff to ensure that specific policies, procedures, and programs are implemented correctly. Required Education and Experience Associate degree with major in Respiratory Therapy Minimum two years of experience in long-term care Valid license in the State as a Respiratory Therapist consistent with job duties (must meet education requirement(s) for state licensure Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPS or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification Required Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrate leadership, organizational skills, and ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously Attention to detail Ability to engage in active listening (giving full attention to those speaking), critical thinking (using logic and reasoning to identify strengths/weaknesses of alternative solutions), and active learning (understanding implications of new information during problem-solving situations) Exceptional judgment and active foresight Self-motivated and self-directed Bedside manner Physiological and infection control knowledge Health promotion and maintenance Ability to function as part of a team Sound judgment Procedural skills Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This position is within a healthcare facility that operates every day. The Respiratory Therapist will work up to four hours per facility. Additional hours must be approved by the Director of Clinical Services. Significant events can occur at any given time that require working. Ongoing direction and support may be necessary if systems are not properly implemented, continuously improved, and monitored. Work Environment and Physical Demands This position generally will require physical activity. It may at times require walking to various locations within a facility. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and may require some use of machinery consistent with the job duties.
