Assist with lab record keeping and quality control activities. Reports to: Phlebotomist Supervisor Supervision Exercised: None Education/Experience/License/Certification: High school graduate or equivalent with proper training in phlebotomy procedures Graduation from an accredited phlebotomy diploma program preferred Minimum one (1) year experience as a lab assistant/phlebotomist preferred Required Travel: Infrequent travel may include limited local travel. Skill in labeling and maintaining all materials for collection. Knowledge of basic computer functions. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate clearly. Spanish speaking preferred. Adhere to the guidelines and procedures of Pueblo Community Health Center, Inc. Performs routine venipuncture & heel sticks appropriate to the age-specific needs of all patients, including peri-natal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric, with little or no supervision. Verify and/or record identity of patient and converse with patient to explain procedure as well as allay fear of procedure. Perform daily quality control in the laboratory as needed. Maintain records/logs of lab work performed and provide daily reports to the Director of Laboratory & Infection Control. Assist with identification and labeling of specimens. Stores and distributes specimens. Operates, cleans, and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments. Cleans work area. Answers telephone takes messages and provides routine laboratory information. Checks inventory of supplies and assists with placing orders. Attends required meetings and participate in committees as requested. Adhere to all laboratory policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned.
