Join the Woodlawn Team as a Financial Counselor! Help patients navigate the financial side of healthcare with confidence and compassion. Woodlawn Health is seeking a detail-oriented, customer-focused Financial Counselor to assist patients with insurance coverage, payment options, financial assistance programs, and billing questions. Educational Requirements and Qualifications High school diploma/GED or relevant experience (preferred, not required). Strong communication skills and a friendly, professional phone presence. Customer-service mindset with the ability to handle sensitive financial conversations. Comfortable working with computers, calculating figures and amounts, as well as navigating medical and financial systems. Ability to prioritize tasks, adapt to changing schedules, and work independently. Attention to detail and a commitment to maintain strict confidentiality. Primary Duties Demonstrates respect for and cooperation with all persons in performing job duties and responsibilities; maintains courteous, complete and confidential communication with all patients, visitors, and guests. Interviews/counsels patients prior to outpatient procedures or while in-house if possible, to collect data, advise of insurance benefits, arrange payments according to hospital policy and to obtain signatures. This includes collecting deposits as well as completing financial forms and applications. Analyzes information received and determines level of patient liability. Determines alternate sources of payment including the completion of personal financial statements, payment plan agreements. Medicaid eligibility or applications for the medical note program and/or the financial assistance program. Researches, identifies, and rectifies any special circumstances affecting delayed payment of accounts such as following up on self-pay accounts and arranging payment plans. Identifies problem delinquencies and makes recommendations that could affect collection of receivables. Reviews accounts and adds the collection code in accounts ready to be sent to bad debt/collection agencies. Prepares the file that is sent to collection agencies and is the contact person for the collection agency staff for problems. Works with the medical note program for account resolution as needed. Prepares price quotes, working with departments for accurate estimates. Sends letter to the requester with the quote. Investigates all self-pay credits and transfers to open accounts or initiates refund as necessary. Answers questions regarding the insurance exchange and provides information/resources as needed.
