Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced Rail Systems & Integration Leader to support the delivery and growth of our rail and transit business across Southern California. Based in Los Angeles, this individual will provide technical leadership on complex rail programs while serving as a trusted advisor to clients including LA Metro, Metrolink, and other major transit agencies.This role is ideal for a technically strong rail systems professional who understands how to integrate complex multidisciplinary infrastructure projects, build lasting client relationships, and identify opportunities that help grow our presence in one of North America's most dynamic transit markets. We are looking for a leader who combines technical excellence with commercial awareness, collaborative leadership, and a passion for helping clients solve complex transportation challenges.ResponsibilitiesLead the planning, design, integration, and delivery of rail systems packages across major transit and rail infrastructure projects.Provide technical oversight for traction power, overhead contact systems (OCS), signaling, train control, communications, SCADA, systems assurance, and related rail disciplines.Manage interfaces between rail systems, track, civil, structures, stations, utilities, and operations teams to ensure integrated and coordinated project delivery.Lead multidisciplinary teams through planning, design, procurement, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness phases.Oversee technical quality, risk management, systems integration, and compliance with client requirements and industry standards.Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, building trusted relationships and providing strategic guidance on rail systems and integration challenges.Develop and strengthen relationships with key transportation agencies, including LA Metro, Metrolink, California High-Speed Rail Authority, SCRRA, and other transit owners and operators.Support business development activities by identifying opportunities, developing capture strategies, contributing to proposals, and participating in client presentations and interviews.Work collaboratively with account leaders and practice leaders to grow Mott MacDonald's rail systems presence across Southern California.Mentor and develop engineers and project professionals, fostering technical excellence and a collaborative team culture.Champion innovation, digital delivery approaches, and continuous improvement across projects and pursuits.Represent Mott MacDonald at industry events, professional organizations, and client forums.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.CA Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.Minimum 15 years of experience delivering rail and transit infrastructure projects.Significant experience leading rail systems and systems integration activities on major transit programs.Strong technical knowledge across traction power, signaling, train control, communications, SCADA, OCS, and systems assurance.Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary design and delivery teams on complex infrastructure projects.Proven track record working with major transit agencies such as LA Metro, Metrolink, CHSRA, BART, Sound Transit, Amtrak, or similar organizations.Experience acting in client-facing leadership roles and developing strong relationships with executives and project stakeholders.Demonstrated success supporting business development, strategic pursuits, and winning new work.Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.Experience with alternative delivery methods including Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, CM/GC, or similar approaches is highly desirable.Growth mindset with a passion for building teams, developing talent, strengthening client relationships, and expanding market presence.Bring your expertise, curiosity, and drive to make a difference. Benefits & Rewards The expected salary for this position is $170,000 - $210,000 Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
