About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown/Medsurg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: - Epic experience Description: The unit has a 29-bed capacity, currently under construction. All beds will be step-down equipped and will open in the first quarter of 2026. Nurse to patient ratios are 3:1 for step-down and 6:1 for the floor. The unit serves both floor and step-down patients based on needs. There is a diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses. Candidates, both new and experienced nurses, are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be able to manage either 6 patients for med-surg or 3 patients for step-down. Nurses will have orders written to titrate drips such as Heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, and others. Charge RNs and House Supervisors are available 24/7. Charge RNs may take an assignment during initial unit operations, but the goal is to operate with a free charge RN. There are Clinical Associates (CAs) on the unit, with a recommended ratio of 1 CA for every 10 patients. RT equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP on both the floor and step-down units. Higher level management of vents will be referred to the ICU. There is a remote telemetry surveillance center for central monitoring. RNs are not required to read their own strips, as Philips telemetry monitoring equipment is in use. Shifts are 12 hours, with a flexible scheduling approach, though block scheduling is not guaranteed. Weekend and holiday work is expected, with approximately half of all recognized holidays being worked. There is no on-call or standby requirement. RNs may be the first to float or be pulled to other floor or step-down units. Scrub colors may include any combination of royal blue and white. Cancellation policy applies for shifts per assignment.
