Description: The unit consists of 30 beds including private and semi-private rooms. Ratios typically aim for 1:4 but can run as high as 1:6. Charge nurses take full patient assignments on both day and night shifts. Nurse aides are available with ratios up to 1:10-12. Weekend shifts include Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with specific requirements around night shifts. Holidays may require flexibility in scheduling. Scrub colors for RNs are navy blue top and bottom, without hoodies. Telemetry techs assist, but RNs must be able to read their own strips. All respiratory equipment is managed by respiratory therapy staff. Hospitalists are present 24/7 with intensivists available in the ICU. An IV team is available in-house 24/7 for IV starts and other needs. Pharmacy services are also available around the clock. Shifts require availability by a specified time, and self-scheduling is permitted as long as unit needs are met. All staff are required to float as needed into rotations. Orientation includes initial HR procedures and time on the unit with a preceptor. Common diagnoses include conditions such as chest pain, CHF, arrhythmias, and post-procedural care. Cancellation policies are strict regarding attendance and tardiness. Charting is performed using the designated electronic system.
