About the Facility – Houston VAMC The Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center (MEDVAMC) is a hospital affiliated with and operated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. It is one of the department's largest hospitals, serving Harris County, Texas and 27 surrounding counties. It is named for Michael E. DeBakey, a renowned surgeon and president of Baylor College of Medicine. The hospital in on a 118-acre campus on Old Spanish Trail and Almeda, just on the edge of the Texas Medical Center. It is accredited by JCAHO, and has 343 hospital beds, a 40-bed Spinal Cord Injury Center, and a 120-bed transitional care unit for long-term care. Nurse Practitioner - Responsibilities

• The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible and accountable for assessment, diagnosis, and management of patient problems, including prescription of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic intervention.
• Advanced practice registered nursing by certified nurse practitioners is based on knowledge and skills acquired throughout an advanced practice registered nurse's nursing educations, training, and experience.
• Advanced nursing patient assessment and diagnosis.
• Ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures, performing those tests and procedures when using health care equipment, and interpreting and using the results of diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures ordered by the advanced practice registered nurse or another health care professional.
• Ordering treatments, ordering, or applying appropriate medical devices, and using nursing, medical, therapeutic, and corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status.
• Providing palliative and end-of-life care.
• Providing advanced counseling, patient education, health education, and patient advocacy.

Nurse Practitioner - Requirements

• Must have a master's degree in nursing.
• Must be a Certified Nurse Practitioner.
• Must have TNCC certification.
• Must have a current and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
• Must have a current Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification by a provider recognized by the American Heart Association.
• Must have a minimum of two years or more within general medicine or urgent care specialties.
