Location Montgomery, AL Duties and Responsibilities The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Alabama is seeking an experienced, motivated, and prosecution‑minded attorney to join our Criminal Division. As an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA), you will prosecute complex drug trafficking crimes, transnational organized crime, violent crime, firearms offenses, and immigration offenses. Initial responsibilities include handling cases individually and as part of a fast‑paced and aggressive prosecution team. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress. Requirements Must be a United States Citizen or National. J.D. degree and active membership of the bar in any U.S. jurisdiction. Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment requires a favorable background investigation. Registered for Selective Service, if applicable. Residency Requirements Assistant United States Attorneys must reside in the district to which they are appointed or within 25 miles thereof. Salary and Benefits Assistant United States Attorney pay is administratively determined in part on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The basic pay range is $76,748 to $197,100 and includes 17.06% locality pay.
