Diesel TechnicianThis role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered trucks, heavy equipment, and industrial support machinery to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. You will perform both routine and complex mechanical work, support overnight repair needs to minimize downtime, and help keep a high-volume industrial operation running smoothly while adhering to strict safety and compliance standards.ResponsibilitiesDiagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on diesel-powered equipment, including heavy-duty trucks, tractors, loaders, forklifts, haul trucks, and industrial support equipment.Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, pneumatic systems, suspensions, drive-train components, air conditioning systems, and air brake systems.Use computer diagnostics, schematics, and service manuals to identify mechanical and electrical issues and determine appropriate repair solutions.Perform routine service tasks such as lubrication, oil changes, filter replacements, belt and hose repairs, and other scheduled maintenance activities.Conduct thorough safety inspections and ensure all equipment meets DOT and internal safety standards before returning to service.Carry out preventive maintenance inspections and procedures to reduce breakdowns and extend equipment life.Accurately document all maintenance work, inspections, and repairs in accordance with company procedures.Follow all OSHA, MSHA, and company safety policies and procedures while working around heavy machinery and industrial equipment.Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and completion updates clearly with supervisors, drivers, and operations teams.Work in an open garage and outdoor industrial environment, including dusty and noisy conditions, and operate safely around moving equipment.Lift and carry parts and tools up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs, and perform work that involves standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined spaces.Perform job duties on catwalks and at heights of approximately 60–80 feet when required.Work effectively in a team environment and support a workweek of approximately 50–60 hours, including overtime as needed.Assist with overnight repair projects to support continuous production and minimize equipment downtime.Maintain and use your own basic hand tools and required minimal tool list; use specialty tools provided on site.Demonstrate strong mechanical problem-solving skills and take initiative in identifying and addressing equipment issues.Train and work toward certification in brakes, air conditioning systems, hydraulics, welding, and pneumatics as opportunities arise.Essential SkillsAt least 3 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Mechanic, repairing systems on diesel vehicles and/or trucks.At least 2 years of tenure with previous employers listed on the resume.Strong knowledge of diesel engines, diesel transmissions, diesel brakes, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and diagnostic methods.Proven experience diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems, suspensions, drive-train components, air conditioning systems, air brakes, computer diagnostics, and basic electrical systems.Ability to read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic information.Valid driver's license; Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus.Ownership of basic hand tools and the required minimal tool list; ability to use lubrication and automotive repair tools effectively.Ability to work in dusty, noisy, outdoor industrial environments and around heavy machinery.Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs.Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces and at heights of 60–80 feet.Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.Good verbal and written communication skills.Ability and willingness to work overtime, including overnight projects, and a 50–60 hour workweek.Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working in cement, aggregates, mining, construction, ready-mix, or heavy industrial environments is preferred.Ready-mix industry knowledge or related industry experience is a plus.Electrical experience up to 480 VAC and familiarity with control systems is a plus.Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is an additional advantage.Willingness to train and become certified in brakes, air conditioning systems, hydraulics, welding, and pneumatics.Comfort working around heavy industrial equipment and in open garage and outdoor settings.Experience with preventive maintenance inspections and procedures.Experience in lubrication, automotive repair, diesel truck maintenance, and heavy equipment mechanic work.Why Work Here?You join a stable, long-term industrial organization where many employees build lasting careers and stay through retirement. You work around heavy trucks, industrial equipment, and ready-mix operations at multiple plant locations in the Miami area. Training typically runs for about two weeks from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, after which you continue on a similar schedule with overnight work to stay close to drivers as they arrive. Daily work often starts at 6:00 a.m. and continues until tasks are finished, which may result in 12-hour shifts and regular overtime. The facilities include secure plant locations with controlled access, busy high-volume operations, and catwalks and elevated work areas up to 60–80 feet. Work attire should be suitable for an industrial garage and outdoor environment, including steel-toe footwear as required for safety.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Miami, FL.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
