Surgical Coordinator

This is an opportunity to join a fast-growing company at the ground level. We are looking for an individual with strong customer service skills and attention to detail. Responsibilities include scheduling surgical procedures with multiple hospitals and surgery centers, conducting pre-operative appointments for patients to sign paperwork, answering patient questions, discussing the surgical procedure, informing patients regarding insurance coverage and patient responsibility, maintaining an efficient schedule for surgeons, and following up with patients to ensure completion of surgical care.

Primary responsibilities include scheduling, coordinating, and rescheduling patient's surgical appointments and follow-up appointments as designated by the patient and the physician. They are responsible for reviewing, updating, and consolidating their primary physician's schedule to ensure an efficient surgery day. They communicate information to patients regarding surgical insurance benefits, surgical consents, surgical procedures, pre-operative care, and post-operative care. They answer telephone calls, return voicemails, and speak with patients to provide information and then communicate to the appropriate staff. They review, complete, and file all necessary paperwork to meet physician and facility requirements. They follow up with patients should their surgical plan not occur for next steps. They perform work related tasks and projects as required. All other duties as assigned.

Candidate qualities and qualifications include a high school graduate or equivalent required, one year of experience in a medical office setting is preferred. They must have strong knowledge of medical terminology, surgical procedures, and insurance terminology. They must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, patients and the public and be capable of establishing good working relationships with both internal and external customers. They must have strong customer service skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment. They must have excellent organizational and time management skills. They must be proficient in computers, relevant software applications, and EHR systems.

Typical physical requirements include frequent standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time. They require some bending, stooping, and stretching. They require eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity necessary for the operation of basic office equipment. They require visual acuity and hearing in normal range. They require the ability to work efficiently under high stress with patients who can be irritable or confused.

Typical working conditions involve frequent telephone contact with patients and other medical staff. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.
