Community Living Instructor

Achievement House is a well-established non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities in San Luis Obispo County since 1957. As a Community Living Instructor, you will play a vital role in supporting adults to develop independent living and social skills, helping them achieve greater community integration and personal growth. Responsibilities

• Encourage and instruct clients in developing self-advocacy and financial management skills.
• Support individuals in enhancing their social and community interaction skills.
• Teach and promote appropriate leisure activities and effective use of free time.
• Provide training based on Individual Service Plans (ISP) to support the acquisition, retention, and improvement of adaptive skills and behaviors.
• Work collaboratively with team members to ensure quality support for clients.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records as required.
• Assist with flexible scheduling needs, including weekends and evenings, and provide coverage at different sites as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver’s license and current state-required auto insurance.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency in reading, writing, and basic math.
• Ability to pass required background checks.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Compassion, patience, resourcefulness, and sound decision-making abilities.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to motivate and provide instruction and support to adults with disabilities.
• Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as needed.
• Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred, but not required.
• Bilingual skills preferred, but not required.

Compensation

$23 per hour starting pay plus a $250 sign-on bonus .
