Mandarin Chinese Audio Transcription Auditor

Role Overview

Audit Mandarin Chinese AI training data by closely comparing speech recordings with transcriptions and word-level timestamps. This is careful, standards-based listening work: each decision requires a pass or fail determination, applicable error codes, and a concise written explanation in English.

Key Responsibilities

• Review multilingual transcription tasks by listening to human or agent speech, comparing it with an annotator''s transcription, applying established error codes, assigning a verdict, and documenting the rationale.
• Audit forced-alignment tasks by verifying whether word-level segment start and end timestamps match the spoken word and whether the reference transcription reflects the audio.
• Correct alignment issues by adjusting boundaries, splitting or merging segments, adding missing segments, or removing segments that do not contain a word.
• Tag every relevant error, not only the first issue identified, and identify critical errors first so failed-task reasoning is clear.
• Complete a short calibration phase before beginning production work.

Qualifications

• Native or near-native Mandarin Chinese proficiency in the variety spoken in mainland China. Candidates must have been born and raised in a region where this language variety is dominant, or be fully fluent with at least five years of residence in such a region.
• Strong English reading and writing skills to interpret detailed conventions and error codes and provide clear audit feedback.
• Ability to apply a written rubric consistently across a high volume of judgments.
• Excellent listening skills, including distinguishing similar sounds, identifying word boundaries in continuous speech, and separating genuine acoustic ambiguity from clear annotation errors.
• Experience in transcription, subtitling, localization, linguistic annotation, or quality assurance is strongly valued.
• Helpful experience includes AI data annotation or model evaluation, phonetics or linguistics, and audio-editing or waveform tools.

Work Terms

• Remote, hourly engagement.
• Work spans two Sonic audit collections, with 5.00 audit hours per task.

Compensation

• $21.50 per hour.
