Summer Camp Wellness Supervisor at Sky High Ranch
Make a difference in the lives of children and spend an unforgettable summer in the Rocky Mountains! Sky High Ranch is located forty-five minutes west of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Activities include arts and crafts, backpacking, boating, horseback riding, zip lining, farm with ranch animals, dance & drama, archery and sports, low-ropes, international cultures, nature and science, astronomy, homesteading, gardening, and outdoor skills. Sky High Ranch is licensed by the State of Colorado and accredited by the American Camp Association.
Summer camp is a great way to add work experience and desirable skills to your resume - especially for those pursuing a degree in education or recreation!
DATES OF EMPLOYMENT: Late May to Mid-August 2024 (approximate dates TBD)
Pay: $846-$1002 depending on experience and certifications (plus food and lodging valued at $200)

Wellness Supervisor General Duties: Working under the regular supervision of the Camp Director, the Wellness Supervisor provides mental and emotional health services for the camp. Additionally, the Wellness Supervisor provides education and support for staff regarding working with children with special needs, behavioral, developmental, emotional, or mental health concerns as well as programs focused on mindfulness such as: 'GSCO Power Up', team building, self-care, and positivity. A primary function of this, and every other job at the Sky High Ranch, is to ensure that each member, guest and visitor receives the highest caliber of service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise & provide care for all cases of mental illness, emotional support, and special need to campers and staff.
- Maintain routine wellness procedures in consultation with the camp director, administrative staff and in keeping with established guidelines.
- Provide care and support for campers and staff who are removed from daily camp life, including program, meals, breaks and rest times due to mental or emotional health illness or wellness concerns.
- If necessary, arrange for medical advice in collaboration with the camp nurse and camp director.
- Partner with parents/guardians to discuss health/situational family information as to help best support campers during their time at camp.
- Inform parents/guardians when individualized attention by wellness supervisor is necessary.
- Keep the camp director informed of all cases of mental and emotional health concerns and the need for individualized attention of all persons.
- Promote healthy living at camp through mindfulness, positivity & self-care.
- Provide daily programs for camp relating to mindfulness, positive self-image, teamwork, 'GSCO Power UP' and positivity.
- Encourage self-care among campers and staff by taking breaks, utilizing rest times, continuing mindfulness strategies, and advocating for one's mental and emotional health.
- Arrange and run camp wide 'mindful mornings'.
- Provide education and support to staff for wellness concerns including but not limited to, children with mental illness, special needs, homesickness, behavioral issues, child abuse and bullying/aggressive behaviors.
- Help design and implement wellness training programs for staff throughout the entire camp season.
- Train and help implement appropriate positive discipline strategies for staff to utilize when necessary.
- Inform cabin staff, on a need-to-know basis, of any special considerations, health conditions and needs of campers in their care.
- Consult with and advise staff about working with campers who may have health conditions, special considerations or needs.
- Contact parents/guardians if situations arise which escalate beyond the scope of cabin staff, reports of Child Abuse, or any breaches of the 'Camp Code of Conduct'.
- Help assist all staff when contacting the county due to a report regarding Child Abuse.
- Document all reports/situations which occur at camp due to any mental or emotional health issue.
- Submit completed reports to the camp director immediately after each occurrence. This may include reports completed by staff, campers, guardians, and visitors.
- Record any interactions with campers and staff in a daily log.
- Participate as a professional member of the total staff in providing effective staff service in all aspects of this job.
- Present a positive persona to staff, campers, guardians, and visitors through attitude, approachability, dress, and courtesy.
- Perform other duties to foster a cooperative climate and a smoothly operating camp.
- Participate in pre-camp and in-service trainings, attend staff meetings, and contribute to the planning and coordinating of the work of the total staff team.
- Participate in supervisory conferences and in the staff evaluation process.
- Respect the confidential nature of all information pertaining to staff, volunteers, and campers.
- Assist in supervising campers at meals and all-camp activities.
- Attend and participate in other camp programs such as campfires and activities.
- Always adhere to all safety and security procedures.
- Assist in preparation of the opening of camp and close at the end of each session and camp season.
PRIMARY CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Consistently reports to work as scheduled, and in a timely manner.
- In accordance with the philosophy of Girl Scouts of Colorado, the person filling this position may occasionally be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed on this job description.
- Upon first day of employment you will be registered as an adult member of Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO). In becoming a member of Girl Scouts, you will be expected to uphold the policies and guidelines set forward by Girl Scouts of U.S.A. As a role model and representative of GSCO you will be expected to:
- Participate as a professional member of the total staff in providing effective staff service to GSCO.
- Be an active member of the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., demonstrating the principles of the Girl Scout Promise and Law in all activities of the job.
- Contribute to positive relationships and demonstrate sensitivity regarding diverse racial, ethnic, and social individuals and groups in GSCO as a whole, and between the diverse individuals employed by GSCO or giving volunteer service.
- Support the efforts and commitments of Girl Scouts of Colorado in pluralism and diversity throughout the organization and within each community served.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Formal Training
- Bachelor's degree in the field of psychology, social work, counseling, sociology, or human services, required.
- At least four years of college or post-high school work experience, preferably at least 2 of those years are within the psychology, social work, counseling, sociology, or human services industry.
- Must possess, or be willing to obtain, current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Must be willing to obtain any other certification and/or training sessions as required by GSCO.
Experience
- Experience working with people with mental and emotional health concerns, behavioral difficulties, and the integration of social inclusion.
- Experience working as a social worker (i.e. previous or current licensed social worker), school counselor, personal life coach, special education teacher, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience recognizing common mental and emotional health concerns.
- Experience talking to parents or guardians in person and on the phone.
- Ability to provide 24-hour care for campers and staff in rustic conditions.
- Experience in crisis management.
- Experience working with children.
- Experience with organization and delegation.
- Experience with problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Experience with group and behavior management.
- Experience with developmental needs of children.
- Experience in record keeping.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to provide 24-hour care for campers and staff in rustic conditions.
- Ability to walk to off-road areas in case of emergency.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable.

- Ability to organize content and methods to provide experiential learning opportunities for adults.
Additional Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have at least 5 years of driving experience.
- Documented training, experience or certification in program areas which satisfies ACA, ACCT, Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints and/or Childcare Licensing standards where applicable.
- Must pass any and all background checks required by GSCO, ACA, and CDHS.
- Must be able to work non-traditional hours including early mornings, evenings, nights, and/or weekends.
