Job Description
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Position Overview The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) performs a variety of respiratory care procedures as prescribed, including respiratory care consultations, ventilator management, and bedside diagnostics. This position also supports outpatient diagnostics as needed, utilizing established protocols and physician orders for therapy and ventilator management. Essential Functions
- Examine and treat patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders based on physician orders, including oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, and chest physiotherapy.
- Monitor and record the progress of treatments provided to patients.
- Educate patients on respiratory disorders, medication usage, and the plan for discharge.
- Draw arterial blood gas (ABG) samples for necessary testing.
- Apply and monitor medical gases, humidification systems, and ventilator support.
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management, and assist with intubation/tracheotomy as required.
- Demonstrate proficiency in various modes of ventilation.
- Utilize non-invasive methods such as CPAP and BIPAP therapies.
- Conduct diagnostic testing, including Pulmonary Function Testing, Electrocardiograms, Electroencephalograms, and home sleep testing.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, sharing workload and participating in rotating schedules that may require extended shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Education: Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Respiratory Therapy. Registered Respiratory Therapist by the NBRC. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at the time of hire; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
- Training & Experience: Solid knowledge of intensive and neonatal intensive care, including EKG, ABG, spirometry, and oximetry. Candidates must demonstrate teamwork, compassion, attention to detail, and possess strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills.
- Job Knowledge: Extensive understanding of therapy procedures for a diverse patient population, including pediatric and geriatric care. Ability to assess patients, interpret diagnostic information, and modify treatments based on established protocols.
