About the Role
The Company is in need of a General Counsel (GC) I to serve as the chief legal advisor and support to the Commissioner and other officials. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a diverse and demanding legal workload, providing guidance on significant public policy issues, and representing the Department in legislative matters. This role involves overseeing the legal team, ensuring compliance with extensive federal and state regulations, and supporting the Department in various legal proceedings. The GC will also be involved in legal review of contracts and grant agreements, coordinating administrative rulemaking, and developing litigation strategies. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar or eligible for admission, with a minimum of 5 years' of relevant legal experience. The role requires excellent communication skills, knowledge of administrative law, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders. The GC will be expected to work in the Montpelier office at least 3 days a week, with the potential for some remote work, and must be able to maintain a regular presence with the Wage and Hour program team.
