Under the supervision of the Region Construction & Maintenance Supervisor, this position serves as a member of the Eastern Region maintenance team in the maintenance and construction of planned, preventative and deferred maintenance projects throughout the Eastern Region. The Maintenance Mechanic 1 is responsible for coordinating and performing new construction, renovation, remodel, repair, inspection, and maintenance of State Park buildings, facilities, grounds, equipment, and vehicles. This position is not eligible to telework, as physical on-site presence is required to perform essential functions.

Uniform Information: All Maintenance Mechanic 1 employees are required to wear a uniform. A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Maintenance Mechanic and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks employee. All Maintenance Mechanic 1s will receive 6 shirts within the first year (2 shirts per calendar year after the first year), 1 jacket every 3 years, 1 baseball cap every year, 1 safety vest every 3 years, and a clothing stipend of $200 per year, and a $250 boot stipend every 2 years. Uniform stipends are intended to offset the cost of clothing worn in the workplace such as pants, boots, raingear, etc. Working Conditions: Work schedule is 10 hours per day, four (4) days a week, Monday through Thursday. Typical work hours are 10 hours per day from 6 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Incumbent may be expected to adjust work scheduled to meet business needs and must maintain regular and reliable attendance to accommodate office and customer demands. This position is expected to travel between parks and/or statewide for meetings, training, and other field work. Travel will be necessary in all types of weather conditions and climates. Due to the distance between parks, expected travel status will be for the week and overnight travel is expected to be 95% of the time.
