Apprentice Mechanic

The Maintenance Apprentice will receive on-the-job training on performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and will assist with minor repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of company vehicles. This individual will learn how to properly maintain commercial motor vehicles according to DOT regulations and Company standards

Location: 2263 State Highway 104 Jacksonville IL

Pay Rate: $25-$29/hr. More pay available based on experience, certifications, and skill level.

Hours / Shift: 2 Options. Expect 9+HR Working Shift. Immediate OT after 40hrs worked.

1) 4am-2pm M-F. 2) 830am-6pm M-F.

About the Role

We are seeking a Apprentice Mechanic to learn how to maintain and repair our waste and recycling fleet. In this role, you will learn and perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and major repairs on refuse trucks (rear loaders, side loaders, front loaders, and roll-offs) to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Key Responsibilities

* Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), inspections, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic/air brake systems. * Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues using diagnostic software and tools. * Repair and maintain specialized waste equipment (compressors, hydraulic cylinders, automated arms, and lift systems). * Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with DOT and company standards. * Maintain clean and accurate work orders and fleet maintenance records. * Maintain a clean, safe work environment and adhere to all OSHA and DOT safety protocols.

Requirements & Qualifications

* Experience: Minimum 1 year experience as a diesel technician/mechanic. * Tools: Must own a personal set of basic mechanics tools. * License: Valid Driver's License required (Class A or B CDL preferred, or willingness to obtain). * Skills: Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, air brakes, diesel engines, and electrical troubleshooting. * Physical Ability: Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced shop environment.
