Job Overview :

Podium is seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Manager, Marketing & Publicity. In this role, you’ll develop and execute full-funnel marketing and publicity campaigns to maximize the visibility, awareness, and sales of books across our frontlist program, managing campaigns across our growing print list as well as our audio-only titles—spanning romance, sci-fi & fantasy, mystery & thriller, and nonfiction, among others.

As the lead on select print and audio campaigns, you’ll work cross-functionally with internal marketing, editorial, and sales teams in partnership with authors and agents to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to each book’s campaign. As such, we are seeking candidates with deep knowledge of the publishing industry, including a strong background in marketing strategy with experience leading campaigns and working directly with authors and external partners.

While experience in book publishing is highly valued, we are equally excited by candidates from adjacent backgrounds—such as product marketing, entertainment marketing, or communications—who have experience leading campaigns, shaping messaging, and working with external stakeholders or clients.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy and execution, enjoys collaborating with creative partners, and can translate audience insights into impactful, conversation-driving campaigns.

Responsibilities:

• Act as the primary marketing point of contact for select titles and collaborate with authors to develop messaging, strategize social media content, and coordinate media engagements.
• Collaborate with internal teams (editorial, sales, advertising, content marketing) to align title campaign efforts with overall marketing and sales strategies.
• Lead meetings with authors, agents, and other external stakeholders to ensure communication and collaboration at every step of each title marketing campaign
• Handle earned media outreach to secure publicity coverage for select campaigns, including writing press releases and crafting bespoke pitches in outreach to journalists.
• Act as the primary liaison between the marketing team and influencer fulfillment partners, including composing work orders, coordinating with internal teams to develop and refine recipient lists, and tracking shipments to ensure timely and accurate delivery.
• Coordinate and support the execution of preorder campaigns, including managing bookstore communication, overseeing the creation of campaign assets, and assisting with incentive fulfillment to ensure a seamless reader experience.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in marketing, publicity, communications, or a related field; experience in book publishing is preferred but not required
• Experience leading cross-functional campaigns and collaborating with external stakeholders (e.g., clients, creators, talent, or partners)
• Bachelor's degree
• A mindset focused on growth and dedication to an entrepreneurial approach to the publishing industry–dare to do things differently!
• Proficiency in key marketing concepts and tools, including consumer insights, sales analysis, budgeting, social media marketing, ad planning, and email marketing
• Experience—or a strong interest—in publicity strategy and earned media outreach..
• Ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously with a proven ability to meet deadlines and prioritize effectively
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, along with experience presenting to large groups
• Proficiency with Google Suite, Asana, Slack, and other project management tools

Physical Requirements

• Primarily office-based work setting.
• Must be able to work onsite Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from our office in El Segundo.
• General work hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with the ability to work outside of normal hours for monthly close and time-sensitive projects.
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to walk, stand, and move around the office as needed.
