The Senior Clinical Dietitian role at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center supports high-quality, evidence-based nutrition care within the Clinical Nutrition-Inpatient department. This department delivers specialized inpatient nutrition services focused on comprehensive assessment, individualized care planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support patients with complex medical needs.

The Senior Clinical Dietitian is expected to demonstrate advanced clinical judgment, contribute to departmental initiatives, and support continuous improvement in nutrition care delivery. The ideal candidate for the Senior Clinical Dietitian is an experienced clinical nutrition professional with strong expertise in outpatient care, advanced patient assessment, and interdisciplinary collaboration, along with appropriate education, clinical experience, and required licensure or certifications necessary to practice as a senior-level dietitian in a healthcare setting. The typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm. Must be available to work rotating holidays and weekends.

• Provide quality, evidence-based nutrition care aligned with diagnosis, treatment plan, age, nutrition status, and individualized needs in the outpatient clinical environment
• Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments for medically complex patients using subjective and objective data, nutrition focused physical assessments, interdisciplinary consultation, and electronic medical record review
• Determine individualized nutrient needs and develop comprehensive plans of care using established guidelines and clinical judgment
• Participate in interdisciplinary patient care rounds by recommending, implementing, and monitoring nutrition interventions
• Complete timely and accurate documentation in the medical record in accordance with departmental standards, policies, and regulatory requirements
• Deliver initial, ongoing, and follow-up nutrition care within established timeframes and reassessment criteria
• Identify patient and family education needs, assess barriers to learning, provide appropriate education, and document interventions per policy
• Provide coverage for additional services and cross-cover inpatient or outpatient services as needed
• Maintain productivity expectations, meeting or exceeding an average of 7 to 7.5 patients per day Clinical Practice
• Maintain a high level of clinical competency through ongoing professional development in nutrition research, trends, policies, certifications, and standards of practice
• Participate in staff development activities through formal and informal education
• Contribute to the development and revision of departmental and institutional resources such as diet manuals, practice guidelines, formularies, educational materials, and policies and procedures
• Share evidence-based practices, advanced clinical nutrition education, and case studies with peers and interdisciplinary team members
• Serve as a mentor and preceptor for new employees, students, interns, and observers Advanced Practice and Leadership
• Demonstrate leadership beyond routine patient care by advancing nutrition practice, education, or departmental and institutional initiatives
• Lead or co-lead quality assessment and performance improvement initiatives
• Participate in clinical or operational improvement projects that enhance outcomes or workflows
• Lead or contribute to program development, protocols, or tools that improve clinical effectiveness
• Develop and deliver presentations, posters, or lectures at professional, institutional, or community levels
• Author or contribute to professional publications or institutional content promoting evidence-based nutrition
• Participate in professional organizations and volunteer activities that support the advancement of nutrition and dietetics
• Serve on workgroups or committees, attend meetings, complete assignments on time, and share relevant information with the clinical team EDUCATION

- Required: Bachelor's Degree and
- Required: Completion of an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) approved dietetic internship or its equivalent.
- Preferred: Master's Degree
- Required: 4 years Clinical dietitian experience. or
- Required: 2 years Required experience with preferred degree or advanced certification.
- Required: RD - Registered Dietitian Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
- Required: LD - Licensed Dietitian Current Licensed Dietitian (LD) with Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians.
