Performs duties to redecorate or renovate hospital areas including the preparation of all surfaces and application of paint or other finishes to facilities, furniture, equipment, outside structures, etc.

Job Description:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager or the Director of Plant Operations, following established hospital policies and procedures perform a variety of duties involving maintenance of painted and similarly finished surfaces of buildings, equipment, furniture, and outside areas. Shall prepare all surfaces to be painted and repair cracks, holes as required. Work with plaster, sheetrock, concrete, etc. as necessary to maintain or refinish various surfaces. Work with other tradesmen as directed by the Maintenance Manager or Director.
• In addition to the direct duties performed as a painter, the individual is expected to complete other related job assignments. These additional assignments may include but are not limited to demolition, general construction and maintenance handy work. May also perform other duties directly or indirectly related as may be necessary on an emergency, temporary or limited basis.
• Proper safety precautions shall be practiced at all times. Protective equipment (i.e. goggles, gloves, face shield and chemical resistive clothing) shall be worn when handling hazardous or toxic chemicals.
• May be required to perform similar or other related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or senior management staff. Must perform all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures. The employee shall also maintain competencies that pertain to a painter's job classification that are necessary for the specific patient population served.
• Keep work areas orderly, clean and safe. Assure proper care in use of tools, equipment and supplies. Maintain established department and hospital-wide policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. Maintain daily reports and other records as required. Prepares reports and work orders in a complete and accurate manner. Obtains appropriate permits prior to working in high-risk areas (hot work, infection control, fire barrier penetrations, etc.)
• Adherence to the standards of performance as outlined in the Standards of Performance Booklet as well as compliance with the hospital Code of Conduct is expected as a condition of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must have at least 2 years paid employment with recognized painting contractor.
• Exposure to situations requiring a working knowledge of skilled contracting crafts and trades is a prerequisite.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Repeated bending, squatting, stooping. Lifting heavy weights occasionally. Prolonged standing and walking. Job tasks may be subject to hazards in the use of mechanical and electrical equipment, tools and power equipment. Possible exposure to hazardous and toxic chemicals.

Pay Range:
$17.00 - $30.00

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
