JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of the Sr. Clinical Program Veterinarian, the Clinical Veterinarian provides veterinary oversight, clinical expertise, operational and administrative support for Viticus Group's hands‑on medical education programs. This role helps ensure the highest standards of animal welfare, regulatory compliance, and participant education while supporting the daily operations and growth of the Animal Health service lines. The Clinical Veterinarian is responsible for overseeing assigned laboratories involving live animals, ensuring compliance with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocols, USDA regulations, and organizational policies. This position provides veterinary supervision for the clinic team, supports instructors and participants, and assists with laboratory operations. The role also provides administrative and program oversight for the Clinical Proficiency Exam (CPE), ensuring successful execution of all program activities. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Education and Experience Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree from an AVMA‑accredited institution. Active veterinary license in Nevada. Minimum 5 years of clinical veterinary experience (academic, surgical, or instructional background preferred). Shelter medicine experience preferred. Strong knowledge of anesthesia, surgery, perioperative care, and clinical diagnostics. Demonstrated understanding of USDA, DEA, IACUC, and AVMA compliance requirements. Ability to obtain a DEA license. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to support occasional evening/weekend educational events as required. Ability to work with licensed veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants to ensure optimum animal care Travel as part of this position may be required with advanced notice. Professional Skills Demonstrated ability to perform and supervise veterinary procedures with professionalism, precision, and care. Ability to perform spay and neuters on dogs and cats as well as wound care. Ability to work with porcine and training will be provided to supervise intravenous catheterization, intubation and anesthesia. Skilled in providing instruction to diverse audiences, including veterinarians, technicians, and healthcare professionals. High level of proficiency with clinical documentation, case records, and compliance reporting. Strong working knowledge of medical and surgical equipment, anesthesia management, and tissue handling. Effective verbal communication skills: able to explain complex clinical topics in a clear and accessible manner. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor, coach, and collaborate across interdisciplinary teams. Ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and adherence to compliance standards. High degree of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when handling sensitive information and controlled substances. Strong judgment, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities. JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES CLINICAL OVERSIGHT AND ANIMAL WELFARE Provide veterinary oversight and care for live animal programs, ensuring compliance with all USDA, AVMA, and IACUC standards. Oversee anesthesia, surgical preparation, operative support, and post‑operative care. Maintain accurate records of procedures, treatments, and controlled substances. Implement medical protocols for in‑house animals including those for animal intake, examination, treatment, drug usage, and animal husbandry. Advise on policies and procedures for safe and humane animal handling that prioritize low‑stress, gentle handling techniques. Oversee the establishment and implementation of policies and procedures for effective disease prevention, treatment, and outbreak management. Advise on medical equipment purchasing, use, and maintenance. Provide professional advice and opinions regarding the development and implementation of department programs Contribute to staff training on animal health and operations policies and procedures. EDUCATIONAL INSTRUCTION & PROGRAM DELIVERY Collaborate with external instructors, industry partners, and program managers to enhance educational delivery. Perform spay and neuters on dogs and cats. Perform vaccinations on dogs and cats. Ability to work with pigs overseeing catheter placement, intubation, anesthesia and euthanasia if needed. CLINICAL PROFICIENCY EXAM (CPE) Serve as the Viticus Group Site Coordinator for the Clinical Proficiency Examination (CPE), ensuring compliance with all Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates and American Veterinary Medical Association requirements. Plan, coordinate, and oversee all aspects of CPE administration, including examination logistics, scheduling, staffing, equipment, facilities, and participant support. Recruit, onboard, and maintain a qualified pool of CPE examiners and instructors to support program growth and continuity COMPLIANCE & SAFETY Ensure compliance with USDA, DEA, IACUC, OSHA, and institutional standards. Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting. Promote a culture of safety, transparency, and accountability in all clinical and teaching activities. Serve as the primary liaison with the American Veterinary Medical Association and Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates regarding CPE planning, policies, accreditation requirements, and program communications. Attend required CPE Site Coordinator meetings and training sessions facilitated by the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates. Coordinate and manage all examination site activities to ensure consistent, efficient, and compliant program delivery. Collaborate with internal departments to ensure appropriate animal resources, facilities, equipment, and staffing are available for each examination. Develop and maintain CPE policies, procedures, documentation, and operational processes to support continuous program improvement. Monitor program outcomes and implement improvements to enhance operational efficiency and the candidate experience. COLLABORATION & DEVELOPMENT Partner with Animal Health Operations, technicians, and assistants to coordinate clinical and educational program logistics. Contribute to the development and refinement of curricula and training protocols.
