Bus Driver

To transport students safely and efficiently to and from school on a daily basis.

Meet all bus driver certification requirements

Meet state requirements for appropriate licensing

Meet state physical examination requirements

Ability to operate all vehicle types used in transporting students

Comply with Motor Vehicle Laws at Regulations of the State Board of Education

Comply with all policies and procedures found in Waynesboro Public Schools Transportation Handbook for Bus Drivers

Operate the bus over the assigned route and make no change unless duly authorized

Wear the driver's safety lap belt if the bus is so equipped

Use a substitute driver who is approved by the division superintendent

Stop in the right-hand lane of the highway for receiving or discharging pupils at designated stops only at points where the bus can be seen for a safe distance from both directions

Exercise every possible care for the safety and comfort of the pupils en route and to permit no pupil to ride on the outside of the bus or with head, hands, or arms out of the windows

Make daily pre-trip inspections of the bus, report any needed repairs, and exercise every possible care in its use

Gover the speed of the bus according to limits established by law for school buses while transporting pupils

Come to a full stop on approaching a railroad crossing, to look and to listen carefully in order to positively determine when it is safe to cross the track

Maintain discipline and report all cases of disobedience to the school principal

In case of breakdown place flags and flares on the highway according to law, notify the school authorities (in accordance with the policy of the local school board), and keep the pupils in the bus until it is repaired or until they are transferred to another bus

Refrain, when on duty, from the use of alcoholic drinks, tobacco, profane, and unclean language and to see that the pupils conduct themselves likewise

Make all reports, and attend meetings and training sessions required by school authorities

Be accountable for flags, flares, first-aid kits, and fire extinguishers

Prevent any object being placed in the bus that will restrict the passageway to the entrance or emergency door, and to keep bottles or other loose objects off the floor

182 DAY CONTRACT (4-hour contract)

Bonus available after successful completion of CDL Bus licensure requirements and 6 months of successful service as a school bus driver
