Machine Intelligence Research Associate - MRI

Beth Israel Lahey Health

When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives. We are seeking a highly motivated early‑career technical research associate with strong interests in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The position focuses on the development, implementation, and rigorous evaluation of machine learning and deep learning methods for advanced cardiovascular MRI analysis. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement machine learning and deep learning methods for cardiovascular MRI analysis, focusing on quantitative imaging such as myocardial blood flow and biomarker estimation. Design, maintain, and document reproducible AI pipelines and research software for large‑scale imaging, physiologic (e.g., ECG), and clinical datasets. Perform data curation and preprocessing, model training and validation, sensitivity analyses, performance benchmarking, and reproducibility assessment across datasets and experimental conditions. Participate in experimental protocol design for NIH‑funded translational MRI studies. Collaborate with faculty investigators, imaging scientists, and clinical collaborators to support research goals. Contribute to peer‑reviewed manuscripts, conference abstracts, and scientific presentations. Provide structured training in end-to-end AI research spanning data management, model architecture design, experimental evaluation, and documentation. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in computer science, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or related discipline from a leading U.S. institution. Minimum of two years of research-based experience in machine learning within an academic or research environment. Experience applying machine learning or deep learning techniques to medical or imaging data (preferably cardiovascular MRI). Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.). Familiarity with large‑scale data processing, reproducibility best practices, and version control. Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to author scientific manuscripts and present findings. Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams. Basic knowledge of cardiovascular imaging and physiology is desirable but not mandatory. Infrastructure The successful candidate will have access to a state‑of‑the‑art 3T Siemens MRI system for advanced cardiovascular imaging and a dedicated high‑performance computing environment with NVIDIA H200 GPU clusters to support large‑scale deep learning model development, training, and evaluation. Physical Requirements Medium physical work: the position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and to lift up to 20 pounds frequently. The job is physical in nature, and the employee will stand and/or move around during the majority of their shift. Pay Range $60,000.00 – $90,000.00 Application Instructions In addition to a curriculum vitae (CV), applicants are required to submit a cover letter describing their prior experience in AI and machine learning research and career goals. Please include a summary of relevant coursework (e.g., deep learning, machine learning, computer vision, medical imaging, signal processing), as well as any prior research experience, including publications, preprints, software projects, or GitHub repositories, if available. Applicants are encouraged to upload relevant coursework and academic performance in related subjects. As a health care organization, we have a responsibility to do everything in our power to care for and protect our patients, our colleagues and our communities.
