HVAC Inspector

Job Summary Under general supervision, responsible for performing HVAC inspection work and enforcing compliance for new construction, remodeling, alterations, repairs, moving, or demolition of structures to ensure compliance with the City adopted building codes, zoning ordinances, and other related City ordinances. Exercises no supervision. Work Location Cliff Morton Development and Business Services Center (One Stop) - 1901 S. Alamo St., San Antonio, TX (78204) Work Hours 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday Essential Job Functions Conduct inspections to ensure proposed construction conforms to the International Mechanical Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Energy Conservation Code and the Unified Development Code Discuss repairs, alterations, and new construction with owners and contractors; explain and interpret building codes and regulations Issue verbal or written orders for correction of defects in materials, workmanship, and other violations of codes and ordinances Document inspection results and investigations in laptop or desktop computer using land development software Respond to questions by phone pertaining to building related codes, zoning, and the Unified Development Code Inspection work requires communication by a variety of methods and may include sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, crawling, kneeling, climbing ladders of any height and may lift/carry up to 50 pounds at work sites Perform related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required Job Requirements High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency) Four (4) years of experience in the installation, service, repair, or inspection of heating and air conditioning equipment Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License Must possess an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician Certification issued by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation Must obtain International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Mechanical Inspector within one (1) year of employment Applicant Information Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full‑time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full‑time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
